The phrase "the colossal vitality of his illusion" lives rent-free in my head at all times. This book is an absolute masterpiece.
The entire novel is a dire warning of the dangers of idealism, as well as the fine line between deserved hope and delusion--and this quote is at the very heart of it.
No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man can store up in his ghostly heart.

I found that picking a single theme song for a story and listening to it before sitting down to write (and possibly also picking an hour long instrumental-only ambient track and listening to it on repeat while writing) can help a lot with remaining consistent, for example.
That last part is so key!!! I think the guilt is a bigger offender (and block to creativity) than anything!
For everyone who is writing while balancing a full-time job: how do you manage to keep up your consistency and creativity? What do you do when you need to reset and recharge? What advice would you give to anyone in the same position?

Absolutely horrific. Shocked that this is the first I am hearing of it.
I have worked with children of abuse, neglect, and adversity for many years and now work with adults who often have histories of trauma. This is absolutely appalling and hateful.
I cannot overstate the importance of reading books, particularly novels by respected authors, for critical thinking skills and reading comprehension. If the big gun novelists don't interest you, start small and work your way up. Or read whatever interests you. Just read. Or listen. It's all books.
