Johnson overrode advice about appointing the son of a KGB officer into the Lords.

Nothing from the media. Not a whisper.

Starmer doesnโ€™t override advice

Media storm and a hounding of epic proportions.

Evidence Badeonch is an opportunist, not to mention Farage and @eddavey.libdems.org.uk .

Unemployment unexpectedly falls. Wage growth still above inflation. 0.5% economic growth in Feb.

And silence. Absolute silence.

Sky News UK chyron reads:
"Olly Robbins testimony devastating for Sir Keir Starmer, says Kemi Badenoch".
I'd suggest it was more devastating for Kemi Badenoch.

Huge relief for Starmer as he now seems cleared of lying and his only culpability seems to be for absolutely massive failures of judgement and sacking a senior civil servant without good cause ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคจ

That's true of anyone. We all make bad decisions from time to time, none of us are perfect.

No, it was ill advised to be sure, but he didn't do anything wrong. He would have received advice from a range of people but ultimately it was his decision to make as PM. As we now know, the information about Mandelson failing security vetting wasn't part of that advice.

With political appointments the risk sits with Ministers, that's why Robbins should have alerted the Foreign Secretary regardless of the announcement. Instead Robbins kept the information to himself and as a result, was holding all the risk, with the associated results of the fallout.

Video

Worth a few minutes of your time to watch these videos of the PM giving the facts and the timeline of events around Mandelson.

Don't listen to cherry picked parts with added opinions from comentators.

Listen to the PM himself.

Robbins should have alerted the Foreign Secretary regardless. If he had, and covered his backside, he'd still be in a job today. I'm just surprised he didn't, given he was sitting on information that was bound to blow up. You never want to be the one holding the bag when that happens.

Reform UK vows to deport hundreds of thousands of refugees Nigel Farageโ€™s party has looked to Donald Trumpโ€™s immigration crackdown as a model

This is an abhorrent plan, when Farage and Reform are being challenged they return to their tried and tested racist hatred of immigrants.

Does a stable or increasing water exchange between the Atlantic and the Nordic Seas mean the #AMOC is stable, as some have argued? ๐ŸŒŠ
Nope. The opposite is the case.

The cynic in me wonders whether the opposition were this apoplectic about Boris Johnsonโ€™s suitability to remain in office over the Chris Pincher affair. Suppose most of that generation in Tories have moved on to consultancy jobs. Jonathan Gullis is a professional flatulist doing the club circuit.

Have you seen Trump? The depravity was the point.

While Starmer is under scrutiny re vetting, we might consider if MPs should be security vetted before taking up post. By-election if failed.
Re-vetting of ministers on nomination & before taking up post.
It might slow things up but should mean we get better quality candidates.
Would Farage pass?

This would be an absolutely vile thing to do. We are so much better than this. Please donโ€™t ever vote for Reform!

Exactly this. You would expect someone to alert the Foreign Secretary at the very least that Mandelson had failed the security vetting. In no other organisation would you keep this information to yourself if you wanted to keep your job.

2 slices please.

PM doesn't have to follow the advice (although i suspect he will from now on). Still doesn't explain why Olly Robbins didn't alert anyone that Mandelson failed the security vetting. In any other role or business that would be gross misconduct.

Reality:

The Tories nearly trebled National Debt, gave us the highest tax burden for 70 years, yet slashed spending for 14 years, including cuts to the military, compounded things with their Brexit disaster and useless deals like Badenoch's CPTPP, leaving Labour to sort out their mess.

So pleased Laura Kuenssberg is back this week. That means there is no chance Robert Jenrick will be asked about his promise to cut flight tax after a ยฃ40k donation from an airline owner.

A Labour Party spokesperson blamed the previous Conservative governments, adding Labour was "finally bringing down" immigration numbers.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood had taken "decisive action" to cut small boat crossings and "restore control of our borders after the Tories' failed open borders experiment", they said.

"We have already stopped over 42,000 illegal migrants attempting to cross the Channel since the general election," they added.

"We have removed or deported nearly 60,000 people with no right to be here."

Obviously Reform's proposals is simultaneously racist, economically and socially damaging and impractical.

But, yet again, instead of saying so, Labour/the government's response is tin-eared me-tooism.

I donโ€™t think we talk nearly enough about the fact that corporations like Amazon, donโ€™t pay a single cent to maintain the roads they use, the transportation system they use, the courts they use, they pay nothing for the infrastructure that is absolutely critical to their business.

Former Tory leader leaves party to stand for Reform He resigned from Plymouth after 110 trees were cut down

The Conservative councillor who ordered the chopping down of the trees in the middle of the night on Armada Way in Plymouth is now standing for Reform UK.

Not surprising considering Reform is a retirement home for failed Tories.ย
