Photo of me (young woman with curly hair) after running the virtual 5k race yesterday in Rome, holding a Palestinian flag and wearing my 2019 Palestine Marathon t-shirt, with graphics from the Racemate app showing my results and the Palestine Marathon's medal (a green medal with the number 10 and the word Palestine).
Ran 5k in the 2026 Palestine Marathon (virtual edition)!! 💪🇵🇸
I had the chance to participate in the 2019 edition in Bethlehem. One day I hope to run the marathon in a free Palestine, when all Palestinians will be able to go 42k without checkpoints. ✊ #RunForPalestine #FreedomofMovement

The meaning of Mawjud – Part 1: the common
In the face of erasure, to exist is to resist. To resist is to exist.
They may call us 'animals,' deny our humanity, threaten to make us disappear. In their world, we do not exist. And yet, defiantly, we continue to do so.
Because in the face of erasure, existence is resistance.

400 dead so far, over 1000 injured, dozens and dozens missing. This is one hour into the massacre. I have no idea what the death toll will be in the end. Also, they have announced “another wave” of attacks coming

Israel called today's operations in Lebanon ETERNAL DARKNESS and we are still being told that this fascist nation can be reasoned with.
This is just a fact: either Israel is stopped or expect the war to continue and expand. Those are the options.

There is no ceasefire in Lebanon. Israel has been bombing Lebanon non-stop since last night. If anything Israel is expanding its war on Lebanon.
You are being lied to

It's a familiar dissonance many of us – fortunate enough not to live under bombs, but aware enough that this will come to us eventually – have been feeling since Gaza 2023.
I don't really have an answer to this. But I find comfort in knowing that tyrants never succeed in erasing our existence. 2/3

How to process the past few days? From falling asleep watching AJ live with the anxiety that nukes may be used to "end a civilisation", to waking up to the news of a "ceasefire" (excluding Lebanon), to my morning podcast updating me on the prices of summer holiday flights because of the war. 🧵👇 1/3

a thing historians will marvel about when they study this era is the extent to which the "war is a thing that happens to poorer, browner people" class went about systematically dismantling every aspect of the global political order that confined the costs of war to poorer and browner people

They considered Mandela a terrorist for 20+ years, and now they make him a standard those demanding freedom today could never attain in their eyes.

Syria’s liberation in Dec ‘24 had a lot of commentary by Syrian voices here, so it showed me it was possible to follow world events from Bsky. More generally expect less/slower engagement, but more inclusive/meaningful experience. We build the spaces we engage in, & that’s what keeps me here.

No worries! I quit X in summer ‘24, when the inflammatory discourse promoted by X led to racist lynching in the UK. Bsky was quieter then, and I focussed on curating my feed, as I had used twitter as my news source since 2008. The post-Trump X exodus helped as that’s when Bsky gained more users.

I recommend @escape-x.org they have a tool which helps you transfer your following from x to here. Otherwise, check out starter packs on issues you want to follow, it’s a good way to find your communities. Good luck!

Wow: Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention (named for Holocaust survivor Raphael Lemkin, who coined term "genocide") calls Clinton's remarks "genocide denial."
"Young people in the US are not stupid or gullible. They simply reject genocide – something the Secretary might consider doing as well."

That's the 1st thing that came to mind, especially after the Disney "optimising to what the richest is willing to pay" example. If this is the norm, instead of sharing a room, adult family members and friends will have to pay for separate rooms, and those who can't afford it will have to "tolerate"

What's left of Gaza:
Black—urban neighborhoods the IDF has fully demolished with earthmovers etc.
White—undemolished urban neighborhoods (with varying levels of major damage from 2 years of bombing, artillery, and ground fighting)
Yellow—IDF-controlled (white areas liable to further demolition)

Pay attention to the language that will be used by much of the media.
The Global Sumud Flotilla never entered Israeli waters.
They are in international waters attempting to reach Palestinian waters.
Israel is once again breaking international law

On Monday, like 100,000s of people across Italy, I took part in the #BlocchiamoTutto national strike for Palestine - a historic action organised by Italian trade unions.
I've written a reflection on my experience & how the tactics used in the strike can create a global ripple effect for Gaza. 🍉

Barely an hour ago, Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif warned us all:
“If this madness doesn’t end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, its people’s voices silenced, their faces erased — and history will remember you as silent witnesses to a genocide you chose not to stop.”
Israel just killed him.
