"the first of several planned by the site" kinda nuts to witness a vital outlet build itself back up again. bravo!
That's the good stuff right there, yes!!
yeah over the years I've come to better appreciate the many good reasons to travel to look at art, of all kinds, and it's nice that this is one of them
I don’t think we quite appreciate how consequential Kotaku’s revitalization under new ownership, after being dragged to the absolute brink by Great Hill, is for the industry. It proves what many of us knew in our hearts; bad management is the beating heart of digital media’s woes.
perhaps in the minority on this but I love that Ghibli makes these little films that remain location-specific. many other visual arts require you to travel to experience them and force you to look at the work through a different lens than you might at home or in a theater. I hope to see them one day
Man, when you compare the bravery of every day Minnesotans to the overpaid cops it’s astounding
Check out a first look at Disney’s ASL re-animated songs from 'Encanto,' 'Frozen 2,' and 'Moana 2,' coming to Disney+ next week. The studio reworks key musical sequences using performance-driven signing.

oh my god
Santa Ana: a rare chance to see this beautifully rendered animated film on a movie screen:
Gil Duran tweet: TLDR: Fascism in response to Palantir's long fascists screed on X.
"Your Account is Suspended" Message on X
The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X.
I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!).
So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.
For the @newyorker.com's Talk of the Town, I hung out with Josh Kesselman, the founder of Raw Rolling Papers and the new owner of High Times Magazine. (In the interest of clearheaded reporting, I did not partake!)
This is why I'm always going on about how liberals and centrists have accepted that some degree of suffering must be baked into society. 10-20% suffering... whatever it is. That's the table stakes. Refusing to allow themselves to even dream of a world where this is an obvious affront.
Mamdani: "What are we fighting for?. When you look back at the history books of our party, 100 years ago we had a very clear vision of what we were fighting for. It's sad that for too many Americans, when they want to look for ambition in the Democratic Party, then have to turn to a history book."
oh my god i forgot to note that robby can't swaddle a baby to save his life, scrap this whole piece we have to start over
Great critical piece from @roxana-hadadi.bsky.social on Dr. Al-Hashimi and The Pitt s2 finale:
"Her ending is anti-climactic and abrupt because it doesn’t feel like Al-Hashimi’s story line was about her as much as it was about Robby."

this piece is lovely and more involved than this framing would suggest. sometimes we can’t fit a human experience into a headline
they got the Church of England supporting the Pope now

We should have never doubted this man
from the FEED ME newsletter Condé Nast scoop: Roger Lynch sent out an email this morning announcing that SELF will be folding: “SELF has played an important role in shaping conversations around health and wellness. However, as audience behaviors shift, we have not seen a path for SELF to continue in its current form as a digital publication. Going forward, health and wellness content will be integrated into our other brands, including Allure and Glamour.” It’s a great time to be a novelty-seeking wellness writer on Substack. Bonus points if you have zero overhead, more bonus points if you have an editor. Those pharma brands need to advertise somewhere… In addition to SELF, CN is “developing a plan to wind down the publishing operations” for Glamour in Germany, Spain, and Mexico. And Wired in Italy. Finally: Puck’s Lauren Sherman posted on X this morning that Sam Barry, the Global Editorial Director of Glamour, is leaving, per a note she sent to her staff.
thought “It’s a great time to be a novelty-seeking wellness writer on Substack” was the most demoralizing sentence i'd read today before i made it to "Those pharma brands need to advertise somewhere" i mean sheesh
How is “viewpoint diversity” not just affirmative action for people with bad ideas
Had to bring my most important Gundam post over from the other place.
I understand Pope fatigue (I was confirmed by a child molester) and to an extent it's a Let Them Fight situation but it's genuinely important and different that the Catholic Church, a major geopolitical actor with endless resources dating back millennia, is coming out hard against fascism this time

i lapsed a long time ago but every new day of this feud sends my head spinning, wondering what the brothers at my old catholic all-boys high school would think of it all
Hyperallergic EIC @hakimbishara.bsky.social snagged a very rare interview with the First Lady of NYC Rama Duwaji. In it she says, “Everything is political: what we choose to show, what we choose to omit, the stories we highlight and the ones we leave in the margins.”
It will never not make me sad how unknown jiri trnka is. literally my favorite puppeteer ever. if there were any justice in the world he'd be held up on a pedestal as high as aardman or laika
you can commit any number of mortal or venal sins with impunity but posting blasphemous AI slop with shitty ringwraith-ass angels in the background is a bridge too far apparently
This is a great illustration of @larryglickman.bsky.social's point about how "backlash" framing lets the right play the victim.
