I just released my brand-new Nintendo 64 game: Phazer 64. It's a love letter to #CommanderKeen and other games that inspired me as a kid to become a game developer.
You can play it on your device via the ares emulator or watch a playthrough on YouTube, links here: www.phazer64.com
#N64BrewJam
Optional:
* If you want to deploy on original hardware, buy a SummerCart 64 (you can then upload your rom via USB-C / CLI right to the console).
* Server members are happy to test your ROM on original hardware as well.
* If you need to do 3D, check out tiny3d, it's amazing.
There's a super active and welcoming dev-community for homebrew (no mods) @n64brew.bsky.social
Here's everything you need to get you started:
* Start by installing libdragon, preview branch. You can use C syntax OpenGL-3D or SDL-2D-like APIs.
* Use Ares as the emulator to run your build.
And with the M64 and Analogue 3D, two brand new N64-FPGA-consoles are actively being marketed and sold.
The 2025 N64brew Game Jam just started and I'll participate (solo). You can still sign up, the theme is going to be announced on Monday and participants are still finding new teams.
Do you love N64 games? I sure do ...
Did you know that it's very easy to start developing games for the original hardware? Even though I never coded in C, I had my first minigame up and running within 4 hours - right on my childhood Nintendo console and CRT.
Today, the internet often feels dominated by ads, paywalls, and soulless SEO blogs. But this journey reminded me that tech is more empowering than ever—not everything was “better back then.” In many ways, it’s never been easier to create, share, and give back.
And that’s worth celebrating. ❤️

I’m also incredibly grateful to all the testers who helped refine the app, and a special thanks to Christoph Minnameier for his responsiveness and support! Your combined feedback made a real difference. 🙌
And now, I get to share my app with everyone.

From Unity’s free edition to Blender, Inkscape, Paint.NET, SVN, and many open-source projects—so much collective work made this possible.
AI also played a role. A tool trained on shared web knowledge helped me quickly regain coding skills and start publishing apps again after years away.

A golden Tibetan bowl hovering above the ground. Above it, text says "Bowl Timer. An elegant, distraction-free meditation timer."
I made this app alone! But did I? 🤔
The truth is, I built my free meditation app using tools made by thousands of developers, artists, and contributors—both open-source and commercial. Without them, this wouldn’t exist. So, in a way, this feels like a community effort.

Saving you before your idea reaches the hardcore AFOL groups and you have to rework all your assets: legonotlegos.com ;D
So now, it's time to wait for Google to hopefully like my application and then, next week, I want to release this thing!
Thanks to ~50 testers across Android and iOS, I added:
- 32 bit Android support, adding thousands of compatible devices
- Haptics, making the app feel alive
- proper mute button behavior on iOS
- a tutorial, if you didn't understand a core feature
- double GPU performance on low end devices
Did you know? 😨 New personal accounts on Google Play Store MUST run a closed alpha test with at least 12 active testers for 14 days - no alpha, no launch button! 🤯
It felt weird to start at zero again. But at the same time, the test was super valuable and improved the app a lot. Fingers crossed. 🤞
