Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.

A major accommodation that autistic and ADHD people can give themselves is reducing the number of decisions we need to make.

This could look like is automating decisions, relying on random chance, or drafting standard operating procedures for ourselves, such routines or checklists

Drawing some Frogby to give myself a little bit of joy. Something about drawing that potato of a frog that makes me smile every time.

Orange butterfly with brown spots on its wings, sitting in the leaf litter

Orange butterfly with brown spots on its wings, sitting in the leaf litter

We only spotted them because the tulip-tree beauty tried to land on us before deciding it preferred the tree trunk

and the eastern comma is much more noticeable when its wings are open!

Birds can be pretty hard to spot sometimes, but lepidoptera camouflage is something else!

Look at these two beauties we saw on Saturday. Tulip-tree Beauty (left) and Eastern Comma (right).

Videos of the property of these white collar criminals being confiscated and arrest videos of the men who victimized the women in the Epstein files would provide ideal social media content for a future Democratic administration...the flip side to the sadistic ICE sizzle reels produced by this one.

one comical aspect that unites today's britain and today's america is that these are both countries that voluntarily inflicted immense economic harm on themselves for basically idiotic, barely cogent reasons and got absolutely nothing out of it

Senator Wyden can’t say it plainly without losing his security clearance, but this raises the alarm that Kash & crew have decided they can illegally surveil Americans without a warrant.

nonzero chance the FBI is plugging LLMs into wiretap data under the legal theory AI alone can’t implicate 4th amendment concerns (semi-known 702 issue). or the NSA has now hard coded wiretaps across all newly built US data centers due to expanded ECSP scope. or probably both.

this is a great example of a business reacting to political/corporate shifts as though they are populist shifts. they did correctly read the signs of a nationwide rollback on LGBTQ rights! they just failed to account for how many people are FUCKING FURIOUS about that and will fight you over it

Orbán rode to power on resentment over the economic stagnation that developed under center-left governments. But he leaves office with Hungarians facing falling wages and higher inflation than similar countries are experiencing. Orbán’s sectarianism and intolerance have sparked neither a religious revival nor a fertility bump; Hungary’s population is shrinking and has become more irreligious, even as Orbán has demonized LGBTQ people, “Muslim invaders,” and Jews. Orbánism, in short, did not make Hungarians more rich, Christian, or free—unless you happened to be one of Orbán’s buddies, in which case you may have gotten rich. As most Hungarians felt their economic circumstances worsen, Orbán provided them with relatively powerless targets to hate.

Orban made grand appeals to “Christianity” and “Western Civilization,” but his “illiberal democracy” was just a scam, a way to make him and his buddies rich while subjecting Hungarians to stagnation and robbing them of their freedom. Sound familiar? (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

It's hard to articulate the level of anger & rage I have about watching this happen. I first saw weev doxx people I love *TWENTY* years ago. I spoke to founders of multiple social networks about the risk of these people over 15 years ago. I wrote about it all a dozen+ years ago. They let it happen.

This is dominionist-speak & projection

Brown & SO many of these white evangelicals have delusions of world domination “for Christ”. But it’s about exaltation of their egos. You’ll never hear them speak of living an ordinary life

They project all of that onto Islam or “demonic” secularism

Two bankruptcies, six jobs before ICE hired him
Among the new hires is Carmine Gurliacci, 46, who resigned as a police officer in Richmond Hill, Georgia, to join ICE in Atlanta in December, according to a resignation letter obtained by AP.

He filed for bankruptcy in 2022, saying he had no income and had been unemployed for two years after moving from New York to Georgia, court filings show. He said he was living with a friend and doing chores in exchange for housing, listing tens of thousands of dollars of unpaid loans, bills, child support and other debts. He also had filed for bankruptcy in 2013 in New York, when he listed $95,000 in liabilities, records show.

Really good reporting from AP. They took 40 people who had listed their new ICE job on LinkedIn, then looked for red flags.

Harvard Asks Donors to Endow $10 Million Professorships for ‘Viewpoint Diversity’ Initiative | News | The Harvard Crimson Harvard is quietly asking donors for $10 million gifts to establish new endowed professorships in a sweeping bid to reshape its faculty under the banner of “viewpoint diversity,” according to two peop...

The irony of this initiative is that Harvard’s Department of Government was the academic hub of the first generation of neoconservatives and Harvey Mansfield alone has probably produced more conservative undergrad and grad students than all Marxist faculty at Harvard combined.

Corporate Bungling And Political Scandal Abound In Jesse Eisinger's New Book Why don't crooked corporate CEO's go to jail anymore? Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jesse Eisinger uncovers culture of cowardice, incompetence, and corruption in both government and finance.

BTW, it's a bit late to add, but Jesse Eisinger (jeisinger@bsky.social) has been especially good at covering the non-prosecution of (suspected) crooked business executives.

How Alice Hamilton Waged a One-Woman Campaign to Get the Lead Out of Everything At first a crusader for workplace safety, the trained physician railed against the use of the toxic and ubiquitous material

I only learned of Alice Hamilton last year. A badass: “…she walked right up to Charles Kettering, head of research for General Motors, and declared, “You’re nothing but a murderer.”
