Plenty of COVID restrictions were still in place when Omicron first emerged and kids under 5 didn't get approved for vaccine until mid 2022, which I think was when the vaccine was formulated to protect against BA.4 and BA.5 (and original strain)...

Could it be possible that younger children did not have exposure to earlier Omicron strains or vaccine formulations that might be antigenically more similar to BA.3.2 than the current vaccine?

Aside from the fact that anyone can get seriously ill from COVID, a key point they are deliberately hiding when removing access is that COVID vaccines reduce transmission. People choose to get vaccinated to protect other people. It is wrong and harmful to take that choice away.
