What has increased during that time is the amount of your tax dollars going to unaccountable private schools, going from $700,000 in 1990 to a whopping $700 million in the most recent school year.
We cannot afford to fund two separate school systems. Public dollars belong in public schools.

School vouchers have had virtually no effect on the percentage of WI students who attend public school.
Here are the percentage of WI K-12 students who attended public schools in various years:
1990 - 84.1% (Milwaukee choice program starts)
2000 - 83.9%
2010 - 85.7%
2020 - 84.6%
To my Republican colleagues in the legislature: be a bud and let legalization flower once and for all. #420
A sure-fire way to spark up a conversation in Wisconsin is to mention our doobie-ous cannabis laws.
Let me be blunt, the most dangerous thing about marijuana is that it continues to be illegal, preventing sensible testing and safety standards.
From 2016-2025, we saw the following:
Avg MPS Teacher Pay - ⬆ 30.5%
Consumer Price Index - ⬆ 34.1%
Milwaukee Sheriff Deputy Pay - ⬆ 47.1%
Milwaukee Co. Jail CO Pay - ⬆ 73.8%
As long as we value incarceration more than education, we will never build the Wisconsin we deserve.
At least one, Miguel Angel Rogel-Anchundia, was arrested offshore for drug trafficking, was never an immigrant, and had no ties to Wisconsin.

The thing we all need to understand about the Trump Admin is that they lie constantly - especially about immigration.
The majority of their "worst of the worst" list of WI ICE detainees were already serving prison time, often for convictions made long before the start of Trump's 2nd term.
Nobody I know is against people who harm others being held accountable - immigrant or not. What we are against is targeting entire communities because Congress refuses to pass comprehensive immigration reform with a real, attainable path to citizenship.
It's not about making our country safer, and it never was. Immigrants, including undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at lower rates than U.S. citizens, contribute billions in taxes, and enrich our culture and economy.
Under Trump, arrests of noncitizens without any criminal record have increased 8-fold from Biden's final year in office. Arrests of non-criminals are now the most common type of immigration-related arrest.
This is some of the most pristine wilderness in the country, and Congressional Republicans sold them out for a possible underground copper mine.
At the behest of a foreign mining company, the pristine Boundary Waters watershed in Minnesota was just opened up for mining by the U.S. Senate, with Ron Johnson voting in favor and Tammy Baldwin against.
If successful, over 100 workers at both locations will be on a path to bargaining for wages, working conditions, and safe staffing ratios.
Best of luck to Rogers employees on your election with National Union of Healthcare Workers!
Good news: the NLRB has ordered union elections at Rogers Behavioral Health in West Allis and Madison for April 22nd!
Workers have been trying to unionize for months and have seen retaliation from management and union-busting tactics.
Tonight, Gov Evers declared a state of emergency due to this week’s flooding and severe storms. Avoid the roads if you can - there has been widespread flooding on roads across the area.
April severe storms are not normal in WI. Climate change is real and it’s only going to get worse if we don’t act
Today in "sadly, NOT the Onion," we learn that Wisconsin Republicans will spend taxpayer dollars on private attorneys to defend themselves in a lawsuit regarding their use of private attorneys. 🤦♂️
What's worse, the Republican budget in 2023 put into Wisconsin law a total sales tax exemption for large data centers. We must repeal this in the next state budget.
Despite 70% of our state believing the costs of these megaprojects outweigh the benefits, the Republican-controlled legislature refused to pass ANY safeguards on data centers before gaveling out for the year.
Big news on data center regulation: Maine's legislature became the 1st in the nation to pass a statewide moratorium on new data center construction.
I am proud to have authored a data center moratorium here in Wisconsin which would protect us from further harm until adequate safeguards are enacted.
This is what Republicans priorities look like - cutting healthcare and food assistance to pay for tax cuts for the rich.
And just like that they gaveled in and out.
Still waiting for Senate Republicans to show up for today’s Special Session on partisan gerrymandering that was supposed to start at noon.
Happy 4/14 day to all who celebrate! Raise a glass (or in my case a Donut) to the Paris of the Midwest.
Whether you’re from Northern Wisconsin or our largest suburb, Chicago, there’s something for everyone here in Milwaukee.

Minimum wages for fast food workers:
Wisconsin - $7.25
California - $20.00
Since CA's wage hike for fast food workers went into effect in 2024, worker pay increased 11%, employment stayed the same, and menu prices increased just 1.5% compared to the control group.
Wisconsin must #RaiseTheWage.
It's perversely cruel and insanely inefficient.
Universal healthcare now!
Universal healthcare would prevent countless premature deaths, improve health outcomes for millions, save trillions of dollars, and eliminate the very concept of personal medical debt.
The only reason we haven't done it already is because a few people are getting very rich off of the status quo.
Our kids' education shouldn't be tied to residents' willingness to raise their own property taxes. We need to fix our broken funding formula and boost state support for public ed or the prospect of district closure could be coming to your community before you know it.
Last week, Hustisford School District saw their operating referendum fail, setting in motion a chain of events that will almost certainly lead to the dissolution of the district.
A similar referendum for Lake Country passed, allowing the district to stay open while its future is considered.
Wisconsin kids have a right to an equitable public education that's embedded in our state constitution. Underfunding from the state and an over-reliance on property taxes is putting that basic right in jeopardy.
