This was a fun conversation we had about Star Trek. Check it out if you are so inclined!

He kind of looks like this guy.
I agree with this assessment.
Incidentally, we clarify that in Season 2 of Prodigy as well — they encounter a Klingon speaking his native tongue that the translators don’t translate. Gwyn suggests it’s because Klingon has a lot of subtle dialects with variants that the translators struggle with for some reason.
Season 1! I believe Season 2 was about to premiere.
I could never get the math to math!
When I was in college, I entered a “Lost” Sweepstakes. Grand prize? A trip to Hawaii.
I forgot about it ‘til 5 months later when a box appeared in my garage. My roommate put it there “because it was suspicious.”
Inside was a “Lost” DVD and 10 bags of popcorn. A “Year’s Supply.”
I understand loving a story so much you want to see it as soon as possible… but leaks can harm the ability for those stories to continue.
It’s harder than ever for artists to live off what they make. Less human-made art, especially big swings, are a huge loss for everybody.

QUESTION FOR ANIME FANS:
How mainstream is Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End?
I’m really enjoying it — but I can’t help wondering if when I recommend it, it’s like telling someone “Hey, there’s this band called The Beatles…”
Do I have good taste?
I think it’s right under “work history”.
Lol, so she was probably messing with me!
Years ago, I was speaking with a friend of a friend from Provence who insisted there was no French equivalent of “geek, nerd, or dork.”
She said “we just call those smart or passionate people,” and mocking someone for that was an American thing.
Maybe she was messing with me…?

With Raffi in particular, it is a little difficult to parse where she was at that point in her life versus whether she could have lived in other conditions if she desired. I would guess she could go to the city, enter a transporter, be in France and volunteer at a winery if she was inclined.
I’m specifically talking about property ownership within the Federation.
I will admit it gets complicated when dealing with other civilizations like the Cardassians, and being forced to relocate or live under a dictatorial regime.
But hey, that’s Star Trek! Pushing ideological boundaries!
I would maintain that from a philosophical standpoint, it seems likely that most cultures — even alien ones — would still undergo a value shift when it comes to property, in an age when location and space wouldn’t mean the same after the invention of replicators, transporters and holodecks.
The “old” rules of “location, location, location” and square footage become functionally distorted — if not meaningless — in an culture that’s been fundamentally altered by such technology and abundance.
The terms of “who gets to live in a castle” is “whoever uses the holodeck next.”
I think that’s my point — the value placed on things like “living on a large estate in France” is wildly different in an age with easily accessible holodecks that warp the concept of space, and transporters that allow you to step outside and be anywhere in the world instantaneously.
I suspect the cultural differences are as much to retain the flair of human history rather than actual disparity.
I find it interesting how difficult it is for some Star Trek audiences to grapple with one fact…
By the 24th century, property doesn’t hold the same value as now. Living in a fancy house/location with stuff means far less in a post-scarcity era with replicators and transporters. A novelty at best.
Love to hear that!
I’m often asked what inspired #TROLLHUNTERS while we were writing it.
80s films we loved. Amblin, Goonies, ET, Monster Squad, Lost Boys. Excalibur. Evil Dead, etc.
In TV, ambitious worldbuilding like Star Trek, Gargoyles, even Steven Universe and TMNT.
Games? D&D and Legend of Zelda!

Is it annoying to say…
I really liked all the Best Picture nominees this year and I’m glad movies still exist and all art is a miracle…?
