I was thinking about classic PS2 era games like Katamari and Shadow of the Colossus and how they're such simple concepts, just executed really well. SotC, for example, has no side quests, no NPCs, no inventory, or even enemies beyond the bosses. And yet I've replayed that more than any AAA title.

Therians and otherkin ARE nonhuman beings, its not the same as being guided and taught by one. "Animal teachers" is my favorite term for that, actually.
Therian and otherkin arent analagous to "spirit animals." I think "animal guide" is another alternative that folks have come up with. Bc the idea of a guiding animal spirit in itself isnt appropriative, its more about how "spirit animals" arent really a Native thing in the way theyre put upon them.

Actually I am interested in the development of the characters themselves, because I know all the business stuff and the manufacturing changes, but not as much about the actual characters and their individual developments. And I know Clawdeen in particular got a lot of weird changes didn't she ?

I do genuinely appreciate the craftsmanship despite wanting to repaint and make new clothes. Like, im so excited to make new earrings for her and style that gorgeous hair.
But the sculpt is cute, the hair is so soft and colorful in a way you can tell care went into. The outfit is cute and like. Idk plastic accessories arent for me, but i can appreciate the detail that went into these and that her earrings and jewelry are removable at all. And her lil cheek tufts ugH<3

also i have never customized a doll and dont know anything about Monster High except the original dolls were really well made and doll customizers loved them, and then they got cheaper and less spooky over time bc white sburban moms or somn
my hand holding a Clawdeen doll from the hit Mattel series Monster High. she has brown skin, long and curly purple/white/pink/black multicolored hair, and a wolfish face with big fangs. She's wearing a purple long-sleeved top of questionable fabric choice (imo), with a black crop spaghetti tank with a moon print over it, and high-waisted purple denim short shorts (of much nicer fabric quality than the other clothes.). She has plastic accessories including two gold necklaces, two gold earrings, a gold belt, and some kinda moon charm you can make her hold.
last night, my cross-system neice and i were high af and went to CVS for tootsie rolls. they had no fucking??? tootsie rolls??? so i ended up wandering around and buying a Monster High doll. its Clawdeen cuz she's cute. im gonna repaint her face with more details and give her new clothes n stuff.

To say nothing of the personal effects its had on our system, bc i sort of automatically brush past that to talk about Community and Movements, bc frankly being vulnerable isnt always safe.
I could write an essay on this, so I will and Ill link it whenever I get to it (laptop is broken rn T_T) but the Unbearable Whiteness of Therians and Otherkin is something that needs to be fixed before we're ever going to take ourselves seriously or have any significant impact on the world.
for others in an interconnected system. The hyperindividualization of people has done unspeakable damage. Therians have a very broken community and I hope that we can hear that as a call to active, mindful, and hopeful mending of those breaks instead of feeling criticised and shutting down.
Im worried about the increase in therians who seem to just want to become animals to escape it all. Thats not therianthropy, to me. And saying "humans are evil monsters, (and im not human so im better than them)" is just. Deeply ignorant. Of what evil is, of pre-colonial existence, of how to care
I think a lot of the misanthropy, both overt and subtle, comes from a place of trauma and a desire to escape the complications of human society. But therianthropy isnt a form of escapism, its a way of living fully in your bodymind with awareness of it being different from others. It is PRESENCE.
If I was misanthropic, it would be an insult to my ancestors from every line and culture. It would be a denial of the people who got us (our system) here. Its just another way to divide humans from natural life, while also desiring to "go back to nature" as many white supremacist movements do.
Feeling like your soul is draconic even if you arent a dragon in whatever way that means to you is just as draconic as someone who feels like a literal weredragon. I often describe myself as "vaguely Draconic" bc i dont have a clearer idea of it than that, and that counts too.
and fwiw I'd be interested in your thoughts on the topics youre chewing on when you feel like your opinions are stronger and more coherent.
