You hit your rev button when your sword connects. The more frame perfect you do it the more rev charges you get. The next attack you do will use a charge to make it better. (Upgrades change this but that's nutshell)

I love Susanoo. He has one of the most complicated systems around his specials and it doesnt matter cause his normals are just able to gorilla him the win.

It isn't that bad. It's just like one of hardest fighting games. It's like spending millions on marketing to advertise a game that will filter anyone who doesn't know exact frame data on everyone. The marketing is really bad and obviously had no idea what they were pushing.
The big thing is the devs were on the chopping block from Sony with a game that had no faith in and it turned out to be GOTY where the multibillion dollar live service game they were firing people to fund, died in a week. I hope that sends a message.
