@jaywigley.bsky.social Received your book today, started skimming. Early section on Mets caught my eye. Kudos/thanks to Dave Smith for persistence, deep love & respect for the game. And you Jay for documenting his journey & highlighting incredible resource for all of us. @ngtcollectibles.bsky.social
I compiled/isolated the player stats of the 162 regular season games from which Bobby Cox was ejected.
162 happens to be a full season's worth, so some of this will be immediately interesting.
I'm not sure how this will go, but I expect it will be fun. Stay tuned?

Thanks to our friends at Retrosheet, we've added three new seasons of box score coverage (1898-1900) and two new seasons of play-by-play (1910 & 1911)!
This means we now have box scores predating the existence of the American League, covering the entire Modern Era (and then some!)

Here’s an amazing new tool for anyone who’s following all the games today! www.caughtlooking.app I am not affiliated but I am amazed!
I finally did it. I loaded @retrosheet.bsky.social data into my own SQL server database. Still some work to do for common lookup tables and views, but I can now query just about anything.
And I documented the entire process for a shareable step-by-step guide (still in progress).
Two weeks from today, the world can learn How Retrosheet Saved Baseball History! You, dear reader, can get a head start with the first three chapters available at www.retrosheet-book.com.
Over at @retrosheet.bsky.social, Walter LeConte has compiled a comprehensive list of all in-season exhibition games involving MLB teams dating back to the 19th century: retrosheet.org/specfeat.htm. 1999 was the last year when these games were widespread, when 13 MLB teams played their affiliates.
Kenny Washington also played some baseball in the California Winter League. The evidence we have says he was pretty good! www.retrosheet.org/NegroLeagues...
Even if you love baseball history, you probably don’t know exactly How Retrosheet Saved Baseball History. Whether you love the stats, games, or stories, my new book has something for everyone who loves the game. To learn more, visit www.retrosheet-book.com and follow @retrosheet.bsky.social
Small update to post below: 2025 @retrosheet.bsky.social data has now been loaded, as well as people-register from github.com/chadwickbureau
One of reasons I've pushed for Retrosheet Database is so folks out there can start sharing their work
As simple example, its very straightforward to do this:
Retrosheet is pleased to announce its second semi-annual release of 2025, which includes play-by-play files for the 1910 and 2025 seasons, box-score files for the 1898 season, and a deep dive into the 1935 Negro League season.

Some years ago, Larry Granillo wrote a few articles providing some stats about Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang’s baseball fun. Sadly the articles are gone but the Internet Archive saved some starting here: web.archive.org/web/20100115...
So, to be clear, no force out or any other out ever since at least 1911 where 386 was a sequence involved!
Calling all interested in helping Retrosheet continue our work!
If you’ve ever struggled with extracting data from our event files, Retrosheet has made pre-processed versions (in CSV format) available covering all games for which Retrosheet has compiled information from 1899 - 2024. Check them out here: www.retrosheet.org/downloads/cs...
Retrosheet’s latest (Summer 2025) release contains complete play-by-play for the 1911 and 1913 AL/NL seasons, box scores for the 1899 and 1900 NL, the 1936 Negro National League season, and updates to more than 1,000 other game accounts. See here for details:

July 17, 1990 newspaper photo showing fan interference with Barfield’s long fly ball to left field during 7/16/1990 game.
Here’s a newspaper photo which confirms Cliff’s memory.
It will be fixed with our next release, which should also fix Baseball Reference. Thank you for checking and pointing it out!
Retrosheet is pleased to announce an update to its Negro Leagues section: www.retrosheet.org/NegroLeagues...
This update includes two new seasons: 1937 and 1938 (the first two Negro American League seasons). So far, Retrosheet has collected information on 7,061 games involving Negro League teams.
Retrosheet is pleased to offer fully parsed play-by-play files for download, by season or as a single massive file which contains all 15,852,865 lines of play-by-play data that Retrosheet has collected to date. Enjoy! Happy New Year!
