“The age listed on the My Number Card stored in your iPhone has been updated”
Geez, Japanese government, what a weird way to say “Happy Birthday”

I’m not gonna look at the Claude code. I know that bad code can be successful. I would know, I’ve written code on things that have been successful.
"Open previous tab" is a feature I'm OK with.
"Open previous window," however, that's a different story. Re-opening those by accident can either be fun or horrifying. And I'm not always up for the gamble.
a photograph of a, man, where do i start. the wall of a restaurant. there is a defibrillator cabinet on the wall. there is a yellow thing in it, and it has two dots on it, and my brain saw surprise pikachu. boy.
surprise pikachu face
this happened to me before, and so I disabled expiry for this one in the past.
I think it has to do with some stuff I did trying to auto-mount an encrypted drive on boot without fully knowing what I was doing. So probably it shut off for some reason and can’t get back up again? Idk
In case you wanted more evidence that life is better without/after kids, my dad just told me that tomorrow a former pro racecar driver is taking him to a race track to go drifting.
We, on the other hand, are staying home babysitting two preschoolers tomorrow
Before Jesus, it was called the Pachypeterlosaurus
Well, I think it’s happened. My little offsite server isn’t connecting to Tailscale. It’s been over half a year, so it’s done OK. Unfortunately I don’t have physical access to check in it.
Poor little guy.
“clown event still possible” put that in your pocket, I can already tell you that this is the key phrase of 2026
About 20 years ago I heard a song on TV from some old movie that I thought was kinda funny so I downloaded it.
Just today, I found out that it was Lea Salonga singing all along! She keeps turning up everywhere!
It’s been two days and the new router I bought for myself hasn‘t died once. After months of nearly daily (sometimes up to 3x per day) shutdowns that required unplugging it, as well as a replacement that did the same thing, this feels like magic. My wifi is *reliable* again.
This has been going on in my head for a while and I don’t really have fully formed thoughts here. But it feels like finding authentic non-politicized culture is hard to find.
Like you have lederhosen sold at Spirit Halloween, or you have country music being played primarily by people who voted Republican
“Traditional culture” of somewhere feels like it often fits in two buckets: commodified for tourists or ultra-authentic for nationalists
野 is like Schrödinger’s kanji because it’s both “ya” and “no” until you observe it in context
With our son around, our bedtime is pretty early, but that meant I was a few hours early for the onsen. Famous natural onsen, many different baths, and I only 3 other people there. It was great.
Off season is the best time to go anywhere. We just spent a few days in a pretty famous tourist spot and it felt like we had the place to ourselves.
The thing is, even if you go over the limits and into the unlimited tier, it’s still cheaper than everything else, so I don’t have to be *that* careful.
I got a new cell service plan that charges you more the more you use. One speed test used up 10% of the data for the cheap tier. Guess I’ll have to be really careful.
A mobile browser that doesn’t support tab groups is like a desktop browser that doesn’t support multiple windows.
omg NETWORKDAYS() is ” net workdays” not “network days.” I was so confused about why only weekdays would be “network days” but here I am, weeks later, putting the pieces together.
So far I’ve got a 100% success rate, but that doesn’t help my confidence when I can only see women in my field of vision.
I’m not sure why, but morning trains often have a lot of women in them. If it’s before 9am I sometimes nervously look around for another man as confirmation that I didn’t accidentally get on the women-only cars.
When I take my clothes to the laundromat, and the change that I forgot in my pocket comes out nice and shiny - that's a coin laundry
Not sure when I’ll sell. I still have some where the cost basis is suuuper low (very early ISOs) and some where it is suuuper high (poorly timed RSUs), so I kinda want to have it offset itself too, if that makes sense.
I realize that I’m fortunate enough to be able to think about tax-loss harvesting and wash sales, but it’s also annoying that I need to know about them.
My former employers stock is doing very poorly. Which would be bad for my RSUs, but now I have something to offset my SLV gains, so that’s nice, I guess.
My son’s school starts an hour later on Wednesdays, so we are springing forward and falling back every single week
Our router’s wifi network would just randomly drop. Multiple times a day, even. So we got a replacement. Same issue. Tried different outlets, too. Next thought is that maybe the location gets too warm for it? I don’t know about this stuff at all but it’s super annoying.
