Konrad Benjamin nails the root of the problem: to stop large industries from ripping us all off, politicians need to stop “going to work in the industries that they literally wrote the rules for”🔥
Rules that as Dr Denniss points out, see gas co’s “pay more in PR than PRRT”💥

Exactly. One of the key criticisms of the nuclear submarine deal is that they are practically useless to us in our own waters. Of course we need defence spending, and it even needs to be higher as we can't rely on the US, but involves actually meeting our needs, not America's.

My favourite line so far from the Gas Tax committee is Susan McDonald "I probably know more than 20,000 people who work directly and fairly closely directly with the gas industry."

C'mon Susan, the Santos corporate box for the Wallabies vs Argentina Rugby Test Match wasn't that big

These monsters from the Valley act as if their own perspective is the organising principle of reality. They flatten the world until it reflects their own image back at them, and they call it order. They recast dominance as necessity, exclusion as clarity, cruelty as truth-telling. What they are building is not just a politics, but a way of being in which other lives appear as obstacles, or worse, as background.

One Nation and Nationals to preference each other at Farrer by-election | Region Riverina Independent Michelle Milthorpe says lobby group Climate 200 has contributed just two per cent of her campaign funding, One Nation…

Everything you need to know about the National Party: it's preferencing Hanson's Big Business candidate - who can't say if Gina is bankrolling ON - over the local independent in Farrer.
Polling has independent Milthorpe 30%, ON Farley 30.9%

No one is saying we don’t need a defence force - but let’s be realistic about what we are defending and protecting ourselves from - and the equipment and money required to do that #auspol

Dr Richard Denniss dismantles the gas industry’s favorite threat.
If taxes kill investment, why is the gas industry rushing to Norway to pay 78%? 🙄
“They are playing us for fools.” 🔥
Nationals’ Susan McDonald has no rebuttal & scrambles to change the subject. #auspol

Because that answer doesn't stand up under scrutiny - so the question remains.
Who exactly are we defending ourselves from? - and spending billions in doing so - at the expense of essential services for all Australians #auspol

We're doubling billions in funding for drone defences to bring us up to speed on 'weapons of modern warfare'. And no one is defining who these modern warfare weapons would be used against?
And meanwhile - Australians can't afford food, housing and required medical care.

Why isn't this ever asked or defined?

A militarised look for Victoria police @ today’s Melbourne rally calling for an end to Israeli massacres. We *sound* angry, as the West’s leaders help this crime against humanity extend through a 3rd year, but the coalition doesn’t act out (unless there are actual Neo Nazis, w 👮‍♀️ protection) #auspol

Newcastle and Liverpool South by-elections live 7:22 – Labor candidate Zeli Munjiza is leading in Liverpool South, with 39.31%. The Liberals are way behind on 22.5%. This is looking pretty good for Labor. That is with nine booths reporting…

I'm liveblogging two council by-elections in NSW tonight. It looks like independent Gavin Morris will be the new Lord Mayor of Newcastle, with Labor's vote crashing, but Labor is doing reasonably well in Liverpool South so it looks like the Liberals won't gain a council majority.

As every expert predicted - but Labor wanted their headline 🤦‍♀️

Meanwhile we’re not developing solutions addressing these significant issues.

After the 2019 election result - to now see how weak the Labor Party is - and realise they really are cut from a very similar cloth to the LNP - has been the greatest #auspol disappointment for mine.

We had such expectations.

I was SO naive 😞😞
