One of my Papilio Amaryllises has begun blooming (with another plant's bud-in-waiting). This is the first bloom for this particular bulb.

Finally got back in to GEM after 15-20 minutes of trying...sounds like he did well and we hope it's enough. We'll get to see it on replay, I guess.

Some of us wish we could've seen it, Devin, BUT the CBC feed crashed midway through his program and wouldn't let us back in. Logged us out and "too many requests" trying to get back in...I suspect everyone in the country got logged out at once.

Floor crossing shouldn't be allowed. If you want to quit the party that you were elected with, then become an independent. Crossing the floor to another party is changing the results of the election after the fact.

Had a new visitor to the yard today, travelling with a pair of robins. From the short-ish mostly black bill I suspect this is an immature Bicknell's thrush (but it could be a Grey-cheeked thrush). Thoughts?

Hi Suzanne. Your butterflies are actually a cabbage white (top left), a wood nymph (top right) and a black swallowtail (bottom left). Can't help you with the 'hopper, sorry!

A male white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) with antlers in velvet faces me as he stands over some ferns and wildflowers in our backyard "wild border." His antlers have sharp 5 up-pointing points on either side but, as he gazes off at something making noise on the street, you can see that his antlers are "lop-sided" with two extra down pointing growths on his left antler. This is not uncommon and, thankfully, makes him instantly recognizable...

Had a dinner guest last night: this handsome somewhat lopsided antlers-in-velvet white-tailed buck. He's a regular visitor to our yard. Last night we literally had dinner together as we ate on the back porch and watched him eat his own dinner. He politely posed for photos...
