Survey results are expected n and it is not surprising, but also not good …

“A comprehensive survey of scientists across ecology, evolution, and marine science has revealed significant disruptions to federal research programs...”

Just learned that the #ESA2025 meeting in Baltimore in August will have a kitten play area in the exhibit hall hosted by the Maryland SPCA. I am not sure I have ever been this excited about something at a conference. Kittens!! 😻🐈🐈‍⬛

From what our college president has said, many of the MA college presidents are in frequent contact and trying to figure out the best way to work together. We were going to have an event with our state rep, but his daughter died suddenly so he had to cancel.

Smith Receives $51 Million Bequest to Support Financial Aid, Faculty The gift from an anonymous alum is the largest planned gift in the college’s history.

In a time where we are constantly getting news of budget and job cuts, this generous gift from a Smith alum is such welcome good news.

I go to lots of workshops & talks. But the 1 offs just aren’t enough to really make change. Maybe it sparks the desire to change. But teaching is so complex, you really need some kind of ongoing community support to make real change. Forming relationships with other faculty is key.

I pretty much need at least one day of the weekend to basically do nothing to recover from the week. Sometimes I wonder why I chose teaching as a career. It sucks the life out of me but also gives me life. Not sure how to explain it.

So happy to see some alpine strawberries spreading where we did not intentionally plant them.

Smith College has been experimenting with how to best manage sediment in Paradise Pond for a long time. I have been monitoring macroinvertebrates to help assess the impact on the Mill River ecosystem for 10 years.

Interesting- I hadn’t heard about the Jamboard phase out. I never liked it so I haven’t used it much myself. I used Miro as a digital whiteboard heavily during remote teaching (I only use it for one activity now). For polling, I use Poll Everywhere bc we have a site license. I see others use Menti
