New Australia Institute research shows that the Japanese Government makes more revenue taxing Australian gas than the Australian Government!

NDIS growth has been driven by structural and legislative failures by past govts which have allowed waste, rorting & inadequate regulation. The system can be reformed humanely & transparently, but we shouldn't be making wholesale cuts unless adequate supports are in place for vulnerable Australians.

Injectable peptides are the new anti-ageing trend. But what evidence do we have they’re safe for humans? Once taboo, injecting is becoming normalised in the beauty industry and on social media. But what do peptide serums actually contain? And do the anti-ageing claims stack up?

New in @theconvo-bot.bsky.social @theconversation.com

Pleased to be able to address the rise of synthetic injectable peptides.

My patient would rather take a peptide than a statin. That reveals an uncomfortable truth in medicine “The volume of evidence behind a therapy has become inversely correlated with public trust in it,” writes Vikas Patel.

On folks who eschew well-studied, regulated meds like statins, but happily inject unregulated, unapproved, mail-order peptides.

This is a good article, excerpted below:

In Australia, it costs about $300 to get the vaccine if you are not yet 65 years of age (yoa; or other special group), despite recommendation to get it from 50 yoa, and growing body of literature pointing to a beneficial effect in reducing the risk of dementia ($300 vs care for dementia ..⚖️)

Fossil fuel subsidies are growing faster than spending on the NDIS.

@rodcampbell.bsky.social says it’s time to call out the idea that governments can’t afford to support Australians in need, yet can dish out $31,020 per minute on climate-destroying subsidies. #auspol

⚠️ Community Notice 13th March 2026

Two blue 'hello kitty' press pills were brought to CanTEST for testing, expected to contain MDMA - actually containing the synthethic cathinone N,N-dimethylpentylone and MDMA instead.

Test it before you take it.

If the NDIS is ‘runaway spending’, what do we call $16 billion in fossil fuel subsidies? New research shows fossil fuel subsidies will reach $16.3 billion in 2025–26, rising faster than the NDIS. Handouts to mining giants are growing faster than support for Australians with disability.

Just a reminder - while NDIS subsidies are allegedly 'unsustainable' fossil fuel subsidies grew by 9.6% in the last year to $16.3bn. thepoint.com.au/opinions/260...

NDIA rejected a vision-impaired person's request for a $7000 mobility scooter because his inability to drive a car "did not result from low vision" but rather due to laws barring people with low vision from holding a license. Nuts! Went to court, NDIA lost, had go buy the scooter and pay costs.

Favourite Jon Kudelka cartoon. From a time during COVID when Morrison was saying tests shouldn't be free, but really could apply to anything.
