Sure we can fine a badge v2 and get them produced…

I’ll take some for free if people are struggling to give them away for free.

So James’ cats are posting as HPCGuru?

On a side note any badges going this year?

Just watching 12 monkeys and they’re talking about Gigabytes of data. 😂😂😂 So cute

But who in any company’s marketing team cares? State something… techies pull it apart but many leaders but into the hype and move their business to utilise the new new shiny

As much as you like as long as you blend it and pass it through a sieve?

You can and some will, but there are many companies out there selling GPU that can’t buy up nukes. It’s going to be an interesting time to see what the split is between those who go big and those have limits…

Eventually you run out of suitable customers and number of units you can sell reduces. At this point prices per unit go up/R&D budgets for these go down. Deepseek appears to show you can do more with less.

150-250kW per rack is ok, 400kW cray racks are larger, so it’s a similar amount of power per space. It will be interesting to see how much space these 600kW racks take up, but that’s a lot of juice. Allowing a small amount of overhead and to run 1000 racks is a nuclear power station.

Alternative theory… the 600kW per rack doesn’t get traction as only a tiny number of companies can get that much power and people instead look at increasing efficiency of models or move to specialist reduced function chips with only the essential parts at play?

I’m pretty certain some of the European cars coolants contain PG rather than EG. I had a bottle of one on the shelf until I went WV. The main reason being it’s lower toxicity vs EG.

I’m more sick of some of the hype coming out of certain groups over the “new invention “

No air, no food, nothing for growth to survive on.

PG25, as in propylene glycol 25% solution in water… Also known as antifreeze which has been used in engines for years?

That’s going to be interesting to use in some locations. I’ve been involved with systems where glycol wasn’t permitted at all. Distilled water was used in one along with air vents

Next question , where’s that power coming from as a large modern nuclear power station has a nameplate capacity of say 3200MW, from two units so 1600 each. Pretty certain they don’t run at nameplate 24/7 either. TMI1 appears to be just 800MW for example

Funny enough I had some people taking the piss when I specified 250kW racks and to should leave space and capacity to grow 50%. Looks like I under egged it 😂

It feels so like the .com hype at the time. Investors are pouring money in to anyone with an AI idea. The GPU providers are quite reasonably selling all they can to these people. I’d be amazed if we don’t hit the point where some of the good will survive, some won’t and many of the rest won’t.

They should look at the cost of power elsewhere. 40p per KWh is about £2million per rack per year in power costs before losses/overheads.

I said to glen the profit claims would mean just seems untenable unless there are customers with billions to burn.

You mean the underpants gnomes have secretly taken over at a certain company and are holding Jensen captive? 😮

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

Kerching kerching kerching…

What was the cost per unit of power and where are the unlimited customer funds to pay the $2mil x 60 x 60 x 24 x 365 a year for 3 years?

600kW per rack is mad… but if as you say it’s 3 “racks” of space then you’re back towards something that can be done. 600kW in an 800x1200 would be “fun”

Years ago the built on ones choked so you managed it from nodes… I’m assuming you’re saying even that’s chocking now?
