Caring about nothing but money and our own comfort is not the simple virtue of the common man; it is venality and selfishness, and the same mindset that justifies worship of the Epstein class. If this is all that matters to the vaunted “American People,” then we are nothing.

This state of powerlessness and feigned innocence is the natural result of a country that thinks of its people as consumers rather than citizens. I am sick of every politician talking about how the American people care about prices and the economy as if it’s somehow admirable.

Why is he always wearing jeans?Perhaps the sauna exercise video was mere coincidence, but the fact that the AI version is also in jeans means it must somehow be part of his identity.

That’s some real end-of-civilization stuff right there.

I have a cup of tea and a wiener dog. Now all I need is a terrible and possibly plagiarized novel.

It’s a little easier to understand American politics these days when you remember that people used to fight over who got to help the king go to the toilet.

Orange juice is more interesting than either protagonist.

Thanks for the recommendation! Neither sci-fi nor romance is usually my thing, but that was a compelling read.

Based on the cover, I am going to believe that the author saw no humor whatsoever in the words “fructose prison” and probably congratulated himself on his clever use of language.

“Flavors inspired by the present”? This concerns me, and not just because I remember the food in Modelland.

The arms are revolting. Why must they be so long?

I need to know about the saddest door. I don’t know if I’m not that far yet, or if I got so anesthetized by her prose that I missed it.

I think most hateful “isms” are of this nature. There are qualities people admire, but, rather than trying to emulate those qualities, they assign them to a group they were born into (sex, race, nationality, etc.) so they can lay claim to them without having to actually be or do anything.

Mistakes were made. Like going with the first white yarn I found and assuming it was a weight it wasn’t. But, when you’re making a 1984 cuddly clown bank, the biggest mistake has already happened.

The pattern says this is supposed to fit over a one pound coffee can. I do not know how big a one pound coffee can is, but I have my doubts.

Started with the first white yarn I found in my stash…which just happened to come from my great aunt. She was a master of her craft. I messed up the first round so badly that I had to start again.

First pattern: the so-called “cuddly clown bank” from the 1984 issue of Women’s Circle Crochet. $1.75 seems pretty expensive for 1984, but I guess it was worth it for gems from Joan.

I’ve decided that my stupid distraction will be to crochet the strangest things I can find in the vinyl suitcase full of old patterns that belonged to my great aunt.
