Caring about nothing but money and our own comfort is not the simple virtue of the common man; it is venality and selfishness, and the same mindset that justifies worship of the Epstein class. If this is all that matters to the vaunted “American People,” then we are nothing.

I think most hateful “isms” are of this nature. There are qualities people admire, but, rather than trying to emulate those qualities, they assign them to a group they were born into (sex, race, nationality, etc.) so they can lay claim to them without having to actually be or do anything.
