The AP exam scores might be more precise (detailed) but they are definitely NOT more accurate (truthful). 😂
Cool. I’ll be at #NCTMDEN26 too! When are you presenting?
I tried again five minutes after and was able to accept. Perhaps the system just opened up or was overwhelmed.
The first 2 NYC-related headlines on the NY Post website right now:
Sicko stayed coldly silent in sex attack on NYC teen as she pleaded for mercy: sources
NYC pizzeria owner slices through threat from knife-wielding hooligan — again
Lower crime rates don’t feed the Post’s deceptive narrative.
Were you able to log into the @NCTM.org speaker ready room? I got an error message when I tried...perhaps everyone trying to log in at once overwhelmed their system?
See you in Denver! :)
man speaking with text above "I'm presenting!" and text on side: NCTM 2026 Annual Meeting & Exposition Denver, CO October 28-31"
I'm pleased to discover just now that both of our proposals for #NCTMDEN26 got accepted! Thanks to Dr. Kristopher J. Childs and the rest of the @nctm.org program committee for their hard work! Hope to see you in Denver in October. #MTBoS #ITeachMath
I believe a marathon is 26.2 miles because the queen of England wanted the marathon to end in front of the royal box at the London Olympics, this extending the distance a little bit.
I offer infinite retakes on my quizzes, which are one-question quizzes focused on a specific skill. But creating another version of a 15-question math test? I can’t create and grade infinite versions of that. Teachers don’t get enough time to do that. #MTBoS #ITeachMath
Unfortunately, this article fails to address a major roadblock to test retakes: creating another test often takes a lot of time, especially for math, unless the problems are all routine (which they shouldn’t be). I can’t easily make up another authentic word problem from scratch. #MTBoS #ITeachMath
there is no reward or recognition offered at the high school level for trying to stay engaged with your academic field at all. it's a damn shame. Lots of talented folks say "that's because teaching kids is the job, not being a subject matter expert." Hard at times to do one well without the other!
schools should nurture active thinkers

The other day I saw a luxury car illegally parked in Queens. The front license plate was missing and the back plate (NYS) was covered with a tinted license cover. No special license plates, no official pass, just a plain white paper with “POLICE” printed on it on the front windshield.
The prospect of Staten Island secession caused a meltdown at the New Yorker’s vaunted copyediting and fact-checking departments
Yonkers is not predominantly white, period, and these days you don’t need all of the fingers on one hand to count the percentage of white working-class people
They think Staten Island should be more like Yonkers? The Yonkers whose Latinx pop went from 25% to 42% and whose white pop went from 51% to 32% since 2000? Ok, sure! 😂 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yonkers...
To be fair, these might be the same people who refer to the “Democrat Party” and think it’s somehow a chic dig at liberals.
But we must protect the rights of NYC drivers to go as fast as they want to because freedom, business,… 🙄
But the enormous rush you get when you feel the horsepower of your muscle car thrumming under you as you race to that red light! 🙄
Do speedsters realize that traffic lights are timed to match a certain speed? Or do they think that traffic lights change randomly?
It takes an enormous amount of privilege and arrogance to think going 5 mph slower for a few hundred feet is with complaining about. As someone who drives and walks in NYC regularly, this is not a big deal.

This is the response to every ed reformer idea I can think of. When they complain about the cost, we should push back against their assumptions. Why would you think that our inequitable society more efficient or effective?
Give me time and manageable class sizes, and my students will achieve the goals I and they have AND be deemed proficient on all the tests.
Yes I totally agree! I wish we had the time and the freedom to do real caregiving (like get to know students as individuals) as opposed to the babysitting that they think we should focus on.
I get so mad at people who blame teachers for low student test scores that reflect the inequity in our society, but we’re the ones who get micromanaged by people who somehow “know better” because they have time to think about these things!
That really summarizes why I hate scripted curricula so much. They are pushed by people who don’t trust teachers. We get overloaded with work by design, then they give us scripts so we don’t have to think and focus on our “real” work as caregivers.
