This story is nuts
The journal ‘Pediatrics and Child health’ has been published an article type, for case reports, that are made up and fictional without having any clear notice 😱

2. Skin to skin care is impt for neonatal neurodevelopment & parental bonding. NICUs have protocols to provide them safely in babies w/ ET tubes, central lines.
Melissa Zhou shows that babies on dialysis do not get skin to skin care like other neonates do. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41629685/
Graphical abstract showing that catch up growth is limited despite good nutrition
Survival is improving for Neonates with kidney failure. With that it is becoming important to focus on things beyond #dialysis. Sharing 2 papers from Stanford PedNeph fellows:
1. Sam Krieger shows that infants on RRT do not show catch up growth on current nutritional recommendations

Hypophosphatemia while on RRT in a ventilated patient is bad, from STARRT AKI post hoc analysis www.ajkd.org/article/S027...
No surprise, but Neyra et al don’t cite our simple solution: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23972063/ - also in AJKD 🤷🏽♂️
Many Pediatric programs routinely have pharmacy add phos to the CRRT solutions. There are concerns of errors though- and at my previous and current program we switched to commercial solutions after a sodium phos shortage. pharmacy prefers this- personnel to add phos more expensive than solutions!
Excellent work from @babykidney.bsky.social research committee on neonatal #AKI
Have seen it used in a handful of pediatric patients with severe sepsis and catecholamine resistant shock. Also see single center pediatric case series pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/37711646/ (Plus a very niche use in infants with renal agenesis or post nephrectomy for severe hypotension)
It's @pasmeeting.bsky.social Abstract Notification day!! Good luck to everyone, especially @aspneph.bsky.social @babykidney.bsky.social researchers. Looking forward to hearing about all the posters and platform presentations!
Excited for this new opportunity! The UMN Department of Pediatrics has been my home for a long time and I’m honored to lead us through this transition.
In 2020, we started to question whether #idiopathicnephroticsyndrome is strictly a 'pure' podocytopathy. Today, I am happy to share our new manuscript proposing a role of the glomerular endothelium in the disease pathogenesis.

Based on a recent workforce survey there are > 90 faculty jobs nationally that need pediatric nephrologists!
Our workforce future seems grim #nephSky

A summer bookended by nephro/AKI/CRRT conferences! Seems fitting for a #pseudopseudohyponephrologist!
Proud of @rhodeshambrick.bsky.social for his amazing presentation on drug dosing and his award winning poster on NGAL & cefepime clearance.
What joy to see him recognized as a star! 🤩 🥹
