Melting glass is always cool 😎

I have had success producing something similar to the glass used in the Lycurgus cup so I'm sure I can help out with a 1st/2nd Century Roman composition ☺️

It crystallised rather than being a glass. If you hold a bottle glass over 780C for too long it is likely to crystallise

I can absolutely see his point. I could melt you something if you like - get in touch for a collaboration

Looks like you may have devitrified from what I can see as you are trying to gather from the crucible

The modern glass is likely to need a higher melting temperature to keep it viscous for long enough

Are you using a Roman or modern composition of glass for this experiment?

This is without light behind. The red shows on the thinnest parts of the glass but only with transmitted light

Hmm Lycurgus glass update....I have the jade green but not the red yet. Not sure if I have to fiddle with the redox or just wait longer in the heat treatment...
