"The most important thing in terms of effective assessment design and assessment briefs is talking to the students themselves." - Professor @diervilla.bsky.social, #QualityInsights day 2
Thanks again Pam for such an enjoyable and engaging presentation. You and Steve were both brilliant, reflected by the high volume of positive comments and enthusiastic questions. We'll need to drag you back for more! π

A6 A very important one! But ultimately it's not their challenge to resolve. The best thing they can do is keep sharing their experiences and hopefully feel that they're being heard and responded to #lthechat
A5 Own it for what it is, acknowledge the challenge but give them confidence there are solutions. Better yet, they're solutions that (for the most part) can be easily actioned! Also try to shift any sense of failure or inadequacy attached to asking for help. They're asking for clarity #lthechat
A4 Sounds ironic to say make it visible but needs to be wider recognition of hidden curric, potential impacts, but also real efforts to tackle this head on and get this right for students and staff (who can also be heavily impacted). Student Guide to the Hidden Curric is ideal start point #lthechat
A3 Hidden curric can contribute massively to 'imposter syndrome' and feelings of exclusion/otherness. There's growing awareness in work addressing awarding gaps that focusing on transitions could be key to improving student outcomes and developing greater parity of experience + opportunity #lthechat
The little heart does not do justice to how much I agree with this! (Also, hello pal!! π)
A2 I'd say self-reflection and being alive to your own use of language - thinking not only about tricky terminology and where this is/isn't communicated to students currently but also any expectations inadvertently reinforced through phrasing etc. And keep speaking to students! #LTHEchat
The hidden curriculum-shaped Bat signal shines brightly π
A1 Pam, Rich and Maddi! π For me, hidden curric inadvertently fuels uncertainty and disparate experiences of HE. It can be a byproduct of old ways of working/assumed knowledge, or a consequence of intense workload for staff. It needs thoughtful attention and generosity all round #LTHEchat
#LTHEchat - coming this Weds 5th Feb - 8-9 GMT: Let's talk about: The Hidden Curriculum: lthechat.com/2025/02/03/l... #seda #studychat #LoveLD
The feeling was mutual! A real joy to work on with all three of you π Still such an important resource too - and let's not forget the guide for staff! I'm really looking forward to following the discussion this week on #LTHEchat

Lessons in Access
2024 was a big year for the Access to Higher Education Diploma, as we celebrated the registration of our first million students onto AHE courses. QAA's Claire Swales tells us more in our latest blog: www.qaa.ac.uk//en/news-eve...
QAA has joined an increasing number of organisations in the field of education which have seen the potential of Bluesky to foster productive dialogue and the constructive interaction of ideas.
Hello, friend! This feels like a very sensible move π
