Our first paper from the @diamond-derx.bsky.social research programme funded by @wellcometrust.bsky.social is out!
We sought to understand how simulation studies in pharmacoepidemiology have been conducted, led by Dr Ryan Muddiman @rcsi.bsky.social
We are pleased to share our latest publication in Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety (PDS). 🔗https://doi.org/10.1002/pds.70329
We reviewed statistical simulations published in PDS, the flagship #pharmacoepidemiology journal, between 2017 and 2024 and focused on implementation & reporting.

A conference exploring how clinical research, medication safety and patient empowerment could impact national initiatives to support ageing adults took place in Dublin today, organised by @rcsipophealth.bsky.social and @tcddublin.bsky.social
#DePhaRM group and @frankmoriarty.bsky.social were delighted to welcome Dr Justin Turner (@optimisingrxuse.bsky.social) for today’s @rcsi.bsky.social PBS seminar. He gave an inspiring look at Pharmacist-led #deprescribing in real-world care through the SaferMedsNL initiative. #ImplementationScience
We work on developing methods to better support research on deprescribing and to ultimately improve medicines optimisation.

On Saturday, the Irish Times published a piece I wrote asking whether Novo Nordisk should be funding children’s playgrounds.
We need to ask if there are hidden costs to Novo Nordisk funding parts of our education and health systems, costs that may not be worth paying for.

DIAMOND WP2 is exploring how simulation can support target trial emulation in deprescribing research. We recently conducted a review of simulation studies - 📢preprint now here: doi.org/10.1101/2025....
We also attended a brilliant simulation course led by Tim Morris, UCL: tinyurl.com/UCLSimTraining
Last few days to apply for this funded PhD on deprescribing in chronic kidney disease, closes on Monday 2nd June!
Publication: We modelled the impact of post-2016 changes to prescription medicine co-payment charges and cost caps on out-of-pocket prescription expenditure
Mean annual expenditure for medical card holders reduced from €117 to €55. For the DPS-group, it reduced from €719 to €555

RxTrends uses data released by the Primary Care Reimbursement Service on the top 100 medicines per month for the GMS (medical card) scheme. We are hoping to expand the functionality more in the future, however this needs more #opendata to be made available.
Very pleased to launch RxTrends, a tool to visualise open data on medication prescribing in Ireland: cdrx-project.eu/rxtrends/.
It was developed by Dr Ahmed Hassan Ali as part of the HRB-funded CDRx project. You can read more about the tool in the companion paper: hrbopenresearch.org/articles/8-36
Huge congratulations Dr Hughes! Enjoy the celebrations.
A bit late to the game!
