This is a memorial piece. My boyfriend passed away in February, and this whip was commissioned for one of his sons. The colors are their aesthetics run side by side with each other.

Here’s some progress shots of a 5ft 20 plait bullwhip I just finished up. The overlay is cut from the hide in the second photo. I was surprised to find that my economy of hide had improved and I had a lot of center hide left over.

I started out by attempting to recreate in nylon, a pair of Australian stockwhips that Peter Thorndike made for me. As I plaited, I found myself letting inspiration take over.
I don’t know if I could make a living off of my art, but this was very satisfying. I’ll have to learn more patterns.
