The ContamCalendar 2026 is full of microbe-related dates so you can celebrate microbiology for the whole year π π§«π¦

The ContamCalendar 2026 will likely be the final calendar we make, so we wanted it to be a great one.
The new design folds out to be A3, perfect for displaying the beautiful microbes inside π
Also full of microbe-related days throughout the year ππ¦ π§«π
Thank you, fixed link now. Not helping that Iβve got rubbish WiFi whilst in the Radiohead queue so couldnβt test
Published today!
'The Kocurious case of Noodlococcus: genomic insights into Kocuria rhizophila from characterisation of a laboratory contaminant'
A labour of love in the group, led by @gemccallum.bsky.social @biostan.bsky.social @prob91.bsky.social

Happy Noodlococcus day to all those who celebrate! ππ§«π¦
Weβre in 3 different continents now but all celebrating the 6th anniversary of the discovery of our noodle-y friend by eating some delicious noodles @prob91.bsky.social @biostan.bsky.social @gemccallum.bsky.social
π€£ I was wondering if anyone would spot that!
It was great fun writing this review with @gemccallum.bsky.social , even if our conclusions are rather scary. Lots of important pathogen evolution must be occurring outside of the infection context...
Thanks glad you enjoyed! Hahaha I think even in orbit they would still find a way to recover within a few days
Delighted to have this review out with @jpjhall.bsky.social!
We discuss the risk of transmission of antimicrobial resistance in the hospital sink drain microbiome, highlight studies providing evidence of transfer, and consider strategies to mitigate these risks πͺ π¦

Happy to finally have this out! It has been a fun side-project that weβve been slowly working on for a while π
I think it has turned out as a nice story, and demonstrates some important issues with historic taxonomic classifications in genome databases. All from investigating a contaminant! ‡οΈ
π¨ Very excited to finally sayβ¦ π¨
The story of Noodlococcus - the contaminant that started ContamClub - is available to read πππ¦

A landmark paper (in the field of Kocuria rhizophila genomics).
Thanks to @gemccallum.bsky.social @biostan.bsky.social and others to get this over the line.
Have really enjoyed my day at #IOIECR25 @ineosoxford.bsky.social
Enjoyed some amazing talks and enjoyed presenting my work investigating antimicrobial resistance in the hospital sink drain microbiome
Gutted the font messed up hahaha
ContamClub has officially reached every continent on Earth! πππ
This set of ContamMerch are with Bodil and Livvie who work at the South Georgia Heritage Trust in Antarctica - @southgeorgiaht.bsky.social
Antarctica marks 7/7 continents that ContamCalendars have been delivered to since we began πΊοΈππ¦
Two pairs of packaged socks. Left: a bright green pair with pink, yellow, green and red cartoon bacteria. Right: a white pair with a bright yellow ContamClub logo. Positioned next to a thank you card with a 3D effect pin badge of a bacterial colony.
Special delivery from @contamclub.bsky.social (@gemccallum.bsky.social)! How cool are these socks!? π§ͺπ¬

Had a great day at the AMR in microbiomes worshop thank you very much @rwheatley8.bsky.social for organising!
Amazing talk by @gemccallum.bsky.social (post-doc with @jpjhall.bsky.social) on his hospital sink microbiome project, including Greg's undercover ICU sink microbiome notes and scary genomes of Pseudomonas, Aeromonas, Citrobacter.
Thanks feels good to be back!
Great to meet you! Looking forward to the workshop in Oxford
Had a great time so far at #MicroBio24 and enjoyed presenting the start of my post-doc work on the hospital sink drain microbiome today π§π¦
