Asbestos is banned in Canada. Why is it in our drinking water? For more than a decade, Julian Branch has worried about the asbestos coming out of his tap, and with good reason: where he lives, in south Regina, about 95 per cent of the pipes are made from asbestos...

The article ⬇️ was published today in the National Observer.

A strange budget indeed. Almost 18% increase in mill rate and utilities. Completely unsustainable, and nary a whisper. Remarkable.

It is a truly remarkable coincidence. Upon reflection I suspect @astevens81.bsky.social may be sensitive due to the FOI material I raised today. He was on council at this time. He would know about both reports. Insufferable indeed. @shitny.bsky.social

Funny, @astevens81.bsky.social was much friendlier when I first raised this issue with him seven years ago. He also made it clear at that time that lead pipes were #1.

No, it wasn’t a super weird take. Perhaps the rude former city councillor is still upset with the work that W5 did on asbestos cement water pipes in Regina, when he did nothing. Do your own research.

In the event @astevens81.bsky.social is having trouble finding the page, let me help. The city paid $5-million for this study, and nine more just like it. Dr. Stevens has known about this for years. Three studies. C’mon Andy.

The City of Regina paid $5-million for 10 scientific studies on asbestos cement water pipes. Clearly Dr. Stevens hasn’t had the time to read them. 10. Not three. I wasn’t aware the NRC studies has been discounted. By whom?

The Hazard of Ingested Asbestos

Dr. Arthur Frank is widely regarded as the leading expert in this field. You chose to ignore this issue during your time on council. 🤐

One. Burton.
Which would I prioritize, asbestos cement or lead service connectors? I am not an expert on lead, but I do know the city spent
$5-million to study asbestos cement water pipes. 2010 ⬇️ Cancer. Top of Pg., 2. @sharonturnbull4.bsky.social

I believe what @pdcityhall.bsky.social meant to say was that Branch said the city should prioritize asbestos cement water pipe replacement because it spent $5-million on scientific studies that say cancer. Top of Pg., ⬇️.

Where are Canada’s asbestos cement drinking water pipes? Check the data for where you live - Prevent Cancer Now Does your community have asbestos cement in aging drinking water pipes? Statistics Canada's first national inventory shows almost 13,700 km of these pipes nationally.

Hello Tony, please outline your
position on the almost 14-thousand km of old asbestos cement (AC) pipes delivering water to millions of unsuspecting Canadians. Do you have a plan to replace them? Thank you.

Given her recent Instagram post on the importance of Regina water infrastructure, I suggest @sarahturnbull.bsky.social needs to watch ⬇️. Old asbestos cement pipes make up approx 1/2 the water distribution network in the city.

Greater Vernon has more than 200 km of asbestos-concrete pipe delivering your water and is unsure of its condition - Vernon News It's common knowledge that inhaled asbestos fibres can cause cancer.

In Vernon, British Columbia there are a lot of old asbestos cement water pipes. The city has no idea of their condition, and says it’s okay to drink asbestos cuz Health Canada says so. Huh.

Asbestos in the water – an infrastructure timebomb? This is quite a departure for me: talking about ingested, rather than inhaled asbestos. In fact it’s so much of a departure that, until last year, I hadn’t really considered it.

You mention water bills.

I live in Regina, SK. Between 2010-2022 there were 2,477
asbestos cement water main breaks. It’s the clay soil that breaks our pipes. The city said there is no asbestos in the water. That’s when I contacted W5. It’s worth watching.

I am aware of asphalt.
There is a great vid on YouTube.
All I am saying about swallowing asbestos is that there is a growing body of evidence 🇨🇦&🇺🇸 that drinking the fibres is a very foolish proposition.

As for low fibre counts, tell that to residents of Brockway, PA. The water report below says 1.3 Billion fibres per litre.

145 asbestos cement water pipe breaks in Regina this year. Was the water tested for asbestos at each break? Were residents notified? Sadly, the answer to both is no. BTW, we still have three months to go.
