Had the thrilling experience of solving Friday’s puzzle on my phone in my hotel room (not the thrilling part) and not knowing who the constructor was and halfway through thinking “damn this is good, who made this?” and then afterwards finding out it was my ❤️friend❤️ @fabioethics.bsky.social !!!
Wow Eli this was so kind!! Really glad the puzzle resonated with you!

I am so impressed by the quality of her scholarship and her dedication to this project — I can't wait to read the final product!
I've had the privilege of working alongside Seçil for the past month at the Brocher Foundation in Switzerland as she's been putting the finishing touches on this book. I have learned so much from her about syphilis in the Ottoman Empire, and the history of Ottoman medicine in general!
JUSTICE BARRETT: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, but what about the Constitution?
Still laughing about this
if it wasn't a whole-ass chapter of my book-in-progress, I too would prefer to wait til I die 🫠
Really grateful for the experts over at @scotusblog.com and their community of commenters — at least we don't have to go through today's oral arguments alone <3

April Fools' pranks are getting and less and less believable.
Like I'm seeing websites claiming that the government of the United States is going to argue in court today that the Fourteenth Amendment denies birthright citizenship to kids born here just because their parents didn't enter lawfully.
yes, among other things! there are bioethics considerations embedded in so many intersections of immigration and health policy (e.g., basing rights to prenatal care in the future citizenship of a fetus has implications for fetal personhood)
(My book also has a chapter on family separations, which have not ended: bsky.app/profile/prop...)
This article is horrifying but not surprising, in light of the U.S.'s historical treatment of immigrants, including pregnant immigrants.
Here's a gift link to read the whole, awful story:

And what does it tell us that unlikely allies can agree that incarcerating and neglecting pregnant people is wrong, but disagree when the person in question is a non-pregnant parent? Or a minor? Or a single adult without kids?
