The stuff I don't need to access regularly I move onto an external hard drive. Haven't yet come up with a plan for the rest tho.

Yikes. I sometimes forget how much non-lockdown time we had here. I was back in the office in June 2020.

I am constantly fascinated by this survey map showing how Wellington was filleted like a fish for colonial property. The image doesn't show it clearly, but that green blob in the bottom is the Basin Reserve. There's a reason for calling it the Basin, coz all the surrounding hills drain into it.

Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?

So many pots. At least I don't have to do the repotting, just water them occasionally for my flatmate. All my plants are ones that can survive as outside pot plants 😂

Anyway that cured me of making jokes about Hamilton. Sometimes you just need someone not to laugh to realise how not funny something is. 🤷‍♀️

Many yrs ago, when I was younger & sillier, I made a "why is it even a city" joke to an English friend & he - completely seriously - said "does it have a cathedral?". Then I had to explain that our city/town division is based on size rather than medieval royal charters, & that Hamilton is large.

Ooh very cool! (Pun intended)

We have a porch area with glass walls that lets a lot of heat in/out, but have found that a heavy curtain between it and the rest of the lounge does the trick.

Probably somewhat to do with funding cuts, yes, but also I think that localised extreme weather is becoming more common and is very hard to predict. Unlike a cyclone that can be tracked. The 2023 flooding in AKL was unforcasted and tbh didn't even feel very heavy when it was happening.

Storms and cyclones are becoming more common and severe, but at least we usually know they're coming and can prepare...

But it's clear that very-difficult-to-forecast localised events are also becoming much more common and severe. 😬

I read it yesterday and there were a handful of nz replies. Just looked at it now and 72 replies (plus all the replies to those I assume) 💀 why are they like that

Agree with this. I'm on 40mg escitalopram (max recommended dose) but for a while my doctor had me on 45mg. You obvs might get some reactions due to having more than you are used to, but you're well under the max dose so should be ok from a safety perspective.

2 episodes later they confirmed that it had been authenticated *chef's kiss*

I hope that lady got all her money and enjoyed her retirement.

A lady just got told that her gold plaque was possibly owned by the Borghese family, that the other examples known are in museums, and if authenticated could be worth £30k-50k.

I'm watching episodes from the early 90s on YouTube.

If anyone wants some of the dopamine of scrolling w/o being on "the apps", I highly recommend watching old episodes of BBC Antiques Roadshow. They barrel thru so many items & occasionally someone has a random vase worth thousands of pounds & you get to watch them being very politely shocked.

The entire pattern we see again and again from the local media landscape is

"Looks like you're experiencing structural problems: have you tried individual solutions? If you did and they haven't worked, then you didn't do it right!" #nzpol

Yeah I heard the rain last night and hoped it would stop in time, but I agree. There have been a few stalls that have been missing for several weeks too. I know I can get to the market w/o driving if needed, but obvs the sellers can't. I really feel for them.

I saw someone on here arguing the other day that you don’t own a book, you only own a license to the book and the book itself is a token of the license. I assure you, I own my books. I can lend them out. I can read them aloud to my child. I can sell them to other people. I can hit you with them

Utterly Betrayed

The Rt Hon. Ralph St John Cholmondley
having moped around glolmondley
for three weeks in Belvoir with glandular felvoir,
decided to surprise his fiancé in Frome.

Bursting into the rome, he found her
cavorting with an awick from Hawick
(via Worcester), whose close attentions
had left her all of a florcester.

His fiancé, who hailed from Beaulieu,
begged him not to get upset undeaulieu,
as Ralph stared at them, boggle-eyed.
Things aren’t how they look, she cried.

I don't know if I could read it. I think it might be too intense to sort of be in his head like that?

I watched it in French with English subtitles, which was amusing considering it was set in France and filmed in English
