SP26: South Scotland Region Preview A formerly largely rural region adds some Glasgow commuter belt seats which tweaks 2021 in the Greens' favour. A big question here will be whether the Conservatives can keep the border seats solidly blue.

SP26: South Scotland Region Preview

What do Eyemouth and East Kilbride have in common? Beats me, but they're in the same region now. Will the Greens fill in their one 2021 gap, and can the Conservatives keep the whole border blue?

Reform's Richard Tice has written to energy firms to inform them of the 'political risk' of Reform to renewables

Labour official: “Reform are now actively trying to discourage businesses from investing in clean energy in the UK...

Complete and utter bollocks, to be perfectly honest. What we find out now any time there's a FindOutNow poll is how much glue they've been huffing, and the answer is invariable "the whole bloody factory". An embarrassment to keep paying them money for this dreck.

Kemi Badenoch's new plan:

❌ Keep bills high by making us more reliant on fossil fuel markets and dictators

❌ Repel billions of pounds of private sector investment in clean energy and the jobs that go with it

❌ Abandon the fight to protect our planet for future generations

In the early years of devolution, Holyrood was open to new ideas, to different ways of working, to taking calculated risks on behalf of the Scottish people. Twenty-five years on, our country and our parliament have stagnated, that energy and creativity too often replaced by bitter partisan politics and government by slogan. Essential public services are in crisis. Our once-admired Scottish NHS struggles to deliver basic services. More than 10,000 Scots have been waiting more than two years for hospital treatment — the comparable number in England is 113 people. The number of people stuck in hospital because their discharge has been delayed is the highest ever and the Scottish NHS is still seeing fewer patients than before the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is very good from Jack McConnell on the ambition we should seek from Scotland's Parliament in 2026, and the stagnation under the SNP now - public services in crisis and a failure to think of new, bold ideas to fix them.

Great to be out in Kirkintilloch with our absolutely fantastic candidate @aidanmarshall.bsky.social on polling day. He’s so well known I think he’s already doing half the job but if he’s elected I know he’ll work tirelessly for his community.

Best of luck to my pal Aidan Marshall, Scottish Labour’s candidate for today’s Kirkintilloch/Twechar by-election. A true legend who’s knocked his pan in!

Very strong statement from Anas Sarwar supporting new nuclear power in Scotland for improved energy security, more jobs, and lower emissions. While the SNP hide behind lies about renewables, we need a Scottish Government willing to be honest with the people of Scotland.

By-Election Preview: Stirling East (Stirling) 5th of December 2024 A Labour vacancy in a ward the SNP won in 2022 will prove a much tougher ask for them to hold on compared to many other recent results, but the balance of transfers is likely to favour them.

Two by-elections today. Stirling East could be a tight one; 2022 would have went to an SNP vs Con head to head... by 2 votes over SNP vs Lab, that SNP win by 8.8%. Labour *can* overcome that, but haven't always lately. Favourites perhaps, but only barely. ballotbox.scot/preview-stir...
