My personal crackpot theory is that the Republicans collapse and end up becoming a more-left-than-Democrats in their pursuit of populism while the Democrats continue their pursuit of norms. I know it sounds crazy and seems incredibly unlikely, but thatās been the story of the last decade.

tbf a large part of the userbase just likes to recreationally complain
donāt mind me, my doomscrolling, doomwatching, and doomposting for 20 hours a day uses exactly zero resources and does not rely on those darn filthy datacenters or hundreds upon hundreds of miles of intermediate networking equipment
Soccer is one of the most enjoyable sports to watch, partially because of how difficult it is for broadcasters to insert commercials.
Itās just unreal how little thought or planning Congressional Democrats went into their role as an opposition party.
Iāve been working on going back to a VM I build with Vagrant. It still has its issues but at least it wonāt meddle with documents.
Chris Murphy isnāt fighting or doing anything. Heās just blabbing on Sunday talk shows.
He is a senator.
He can withhold unanimous consent and he does not. He has levers to pull. He is only successful in fooling folks into making it look like heās doing something without doing anything.
Itās been a bit since I did math on the time-of-use plan but I want to say it gets even cheaper (iirc about $3-4 assuming ~4mi/kw) if you can get on Dominionās time-of-use plan.
Itās crazy how cheap it is to drive around on electricity.

I like how Washington Gas gives me a fantastic surprise 3 hour notice about terminating service.
Iām moving between rental houses and have a month overlap between the two. I thought I made this clear when scheduling my move-in/move-out and on the phone.
Given what's going on, glad my landlord installed an EV outlet for me last week... And given that natural gas might go up in cost, I switched my electric service to time-of-use billing a couple days ago (www.dominionenergy.com/en/Virginia/...)
Whatās amusing is how many non-dev/not even dev-adjacent people are weighing in as if they know what theyāre talking about.
Even before AI there were a lot of cowboy coders slinging junk around. AI by itself doesnāt mean bad code, itās still on the development team to ensure the code is correct.
It's crazy how bad some people's DIY electrical work is. If I end up buying a place, first thing I'm doing is ripping out all of the breakers and throwing in AFCIs, I just don't trust people.
Welcome! I highly recommend the For You feed (how I and probably a few other random folks found your post). The default Discover feed is okay, but For You does a lot better surfacing more topics.

Itās amazing how well Silicon Valley aged. I wish they could pull off a reboot for one season with all of whatās happened the last decade.
Photo of me laying down taking photo towards my legs with an orange cat laying on my stomach and his right paw extended in a hug-like manner
My orange cat does not want to start this morning
100%. I think too many people conflate āthis department at my job hasnāt been visibly useful to meā with āthis business function can be eliminated across the boardā
Itās just wild how many people want to reduce other peopleās job titles down to a sentence without understanding what the jobs actually do (and my critique of this extends to nearly every job that people say will be replaced)
The extreme takes of āAI is awful and has no useā and āAI will eat all of our jobsā seem so bizarre. For example, software dev is more than typing out code, thereās the function of understanding and planning around a business objective. IMO itāll give more time to understand requirements.
AI has made coding SO much more fun.
Is it perfect? No.
Do I feel more motivated when most of the gruntwork is being done for me? Yes.
Do I have even more time to audit what Iām doing to make sure itās correct? Absolutely.
The idea was sold on tracking groups, but it very well could be abused.
Many groups are transparent and advertise, plus the larger ones get permits anyways.
It felt like an intrusion of first amendment rights, especially peaceful demonstrators and random supporters just tweeting they support a cause
Near the end of college I was desperate to find a job and was referred to a place. Day 1, find out the product was to scour social media to map protest participants from Twitter streaming data. I quit.
It was a quick lesson that taught me to learn the ethics/impacts of my work before starting a job
Green Day starting off with Holiday, alright Iām on board with it.
āDonāt let people control cars with (metaphorical) Xbox controllersā -> āwell, we arenātā¦ā -> cool! guess we wonāt need to discuss this further!
A lot of the Waymo discourse around that article shows a lot of prominent posters are just in it for clicks and attention. Framing it like thereās a room of folks playing Forza isnāt helpful at all to any productive discussion about safety/regulation.
