Good for them, honestly

Do horses want cake? We conducted an investigation into statements published by @bencollins.bsky.social in the print edition of @theonion.com.
I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake By A Horse Hello. I am a horse. I work very hard at my job of being a horse. When humans say move the heavy thing, I move the heavy thing. When humans sit on top of me and pull on my head, I carry them where they want to go. The main food the humans give me is hay and oats. But I am thinking it would be nice to have a different food. I am thinking I would like to try cake. Yes, yes. Cake. I know all about it. When humans eat cake, it is in glad times. It is the food for a celebration, such as when a woman becomes 47. I have seen cake on the Fourth of July. When humans have a cake, they stand around it and clap hands and smile and say happy birthday at each other. Sometimes there are beautiful markings on a cake, such as balloons or a pink shape. Sometimes the top of a cake is on fire and a boy must blow on the fire with mouth wind. This is the scariest cake. I do not want this kind. But I will eat any other cake. Any cake that is not the fire cake that tries to kill the boy. Please understand: I do not get money for doing work. I do not get to go inside the house. All I am either doing my horse job or standing in my pen or eating food off the floor. I always do these things. But I have never once gotten cake and I would like it very much. I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children. I am more helpful to the farm. Children do not move the heavy things like me or let anyone ride on them. And yet they get cake. Maybe the humans will realize this. Maybe they will say, "You know who deserves cake? That horse. That horse whose back we are always on." Every day I dream about what it will be like if I get to eat cake. Here is what will happen. First, I will walk to the cake and putt my nose at it like hrrfff to make and stomping my hooves to make sure it is not a snake. Then I will trot in a circle to show that I am a horse and I am large. After that, I will nuzzle the cake to โฆ
The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me.
It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."
I didn't realize they were televised? Are they on the same YouTube channel as the regular meetings?
Purge that house ma'am! Thinking of you and sending fresh start spring vibes ๐
I don't have any numbers to back this up but it seems like that happened to some extent at Othello, yeah? And the Graham location is primed to experience similar.
I don't understand why they can't just put a bench there, stop the train, and call it a day. Yes I know there's more to it than that, but the major infrastructure is already in place, no?
That is the truth
To be clear I do NOT agree with the Times suggestion that we say "thank you businesses, please come screw people over here! We want you!" -- no, they are not being good neighbors, take their money.
I went on a girls trip last December and 4 out of 5 of us had been recently laid off or forced out from tech related jobs. It's been nuts to see such a lag in reporting what's happening when I see it all around me.
It's been down in tech for a few years now, made worse by AI. I'd love to blame Trump and he is undoubtedly making it worse, but the bad guy here is late stage capitalism. ๐ซค
As others have mentioned, often Google maps will direct me some crazy route and unfortunately if I'm not familiar with the area I won't know until too late. Way overdue for a "arterials only" option.
We got a DM the other day with a fun request from a local family:
Could we find this nice BART train operator who always waved and beeped at this special little rider?
And if we found him, could we deliver him a thank you card!?ย
So we got to work โฆ
Ok, I may have misunderstood the timeline. I thought they were saying that 2 of the 3 finalists failed the anti-bias screening. But now I can't find any evidence to that point, only that 2 of the original (9?) were eliminated, which is plausible.
I can appreciate that she's not the most political politician on the board. But also the whole job is to understand and influence fellow board members towards positive outcomes for kids. To me this would suggest a need to at minimum learn and remember basic facts about them (there are only 7). ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Minutes from the ELA curriculum selection committee meeting that says "teams identified patterns of bias and reached consensus on recommendations for elimination of materials that did not meet anti-bias standards"
Not to harp on this, but the minutes make it sound like the committee found biased content in several major ELA curricula and I think it's a fair question to ask for an example and/or to see the tool that was used.
@evidentlyreading.bsky.social ^^ update on the SPS reading curriculum. They are recommending Emerge.
The fact that no one can explain why it's 9 years or nothing is a bit concerning
Several reading specialist friends looked at the finalist list and said "none of them are great but Amplify is probably the best" and these are not educators who would endorse biased curriculum. "Egregious" is a big claim.
Please pardon my egregious spelling error
"I don't know if any of you have a K - 3rd grader"
LaVallee does (and, respectfully, how does she not know that??)
I want to know what the aggregious bias is with the alternative curriculum
Definitely feels like we would benefit from a clearer explanation of what the heck is a consumable
Aren't they supposed to publish board questions and responses?
#2 seems a little vague. I predict more "what are we approving exactly?" discussion
So it's a pair of twin towers and someone thought "let's stick an airplane here" ๐ฌ
We have an AI district?
Monstera plant in a window with a new unfurling leaf
I propped up my monstera correctly and it has rewarded me with a new leaf!
Are we just bombing the oil directly now?
I remain unconvinced there is anything stopping this from happening but clearly this is a divisive issue and there will be no changing of hearts and minds. โ๏ธ
