Imo I think Siskel and Ebert were both blessings and curses when it comes to film criticisms.

When they were on the money they gave incredible films criticisms.

When they weren't they were prudes and would fall into the typical 80s/90s moral panics of the era. Mostly with Slashers.

Yeah. I can see the argument on both fronts regarding wood elves.

Apologizes if this is deeper than usual posts but given what's been seen on online political discourse, I had to post about this somewhere

To note I'm talking mainly leftist political communities here.

I ain't calling for the left and right to get along (I'm not a Centrist).

More have your grounds and stick to your convictions but don't let the internet and social media be the end all be all when it comes to that

Use the internet as a boost, but more importantly, read. For the love of whatever God or lack there of exists, please read and read from multiple perspectives as well.

I also wanna stress that no ideas are ever truly our own. My point isn't necessarily "think for yourself" like individualism more so, find something that sticks and also don't be afraid to take elements or least find an understanding of perspectives

There's also an issue where infighting takes Centre stage over the real issues in our world (sorry MLs and Anarchists, you two are very guilty of this).

Not saying we should all get along but a hyper focus on political supremacy is not gonna win anyone over to your side.

However it can be too much of a dependency (which I have been guilty of) which can remove conducting actual readings into political ideologies and comes across as liking an particular ideology because you like a certain political creator

Now, is it totally devoid of merit? No.

The internet can be a tool that can help educate people about the facts in a world of misinformation and as mentioned before can held organize and unite people of likeminded persuasions

Social Media in particular I do think is also quite heavily responsible for the rise of the far right. Not to suggest it never existed before the internet boom but it's a very easy tool where people can revision facts and history and it's part of the reason the likes of the US is how it is now.

It quickly turns quite unintentionally hostile that when there are political mindsets challenging your own, while a good faith discussion can be had, it quickly can turn or start out as a shouting session of ideological superiority which kills any notion of nuance or complexities

Social media is very easy to become very campist and also in a lot of way quite individualistic (even if you're a follower of non individualistic beliefs) in a way that comes across as a psudeo Holier Than Thou type of attitude

So on paper, political discourse and the likes of social media (and the internet) sounds ultimately good on paper.

It's easy to connect with other likeminded individuals and for a lot it's easy for people to organise.

However there is an issue with this

So, I'm about to do a feed which might be more deeper than my usual posts but I think it's something that I've been thinking about a lot recently and that is to do with my issues with political discourse online.

I will elaborate in this thread.
