Thank you love xx
Thank you! :)
I’ve just submitted my thesis! It took me until 23:33 to pluck up the courage to press the ‘submit’ button but it’s done! What a nuts feeling?!
Wow, it feels sad and surreal to hear them announce the death of Moya Brennan on the radio this morning, on the day I am submitting my thesis, given how much of this PhD was completed with Clannad playing in the background. Thank you for the music and the inspiration, Moya!
In case you missed it, we had an eventful Easter! 16 million of our records, including our massive collection of wills, are now available to search and view on Ancestry.com (and can be accessed for free onsite at the Borthwick).

Pedro Sánchez @sanchezcastejon wrote on Twitter: Ceasefires are always good news. Especially if they lead to a just and lasting peace. But this momentary relief cannot make us forget the chaos, the destruction, and the lives lost. The Government of Spain will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they show up with a bucket. What's needed now: diplomacy, international legality, and PEACE. The Spain's Prime Minister and his official reaction to the #ceasefire this morning (translated from Spanish).
"The Government of #Spain will not applaud those who set the world on fire just because they show up with a bucket."
6 days away from thesis submission and feeling surprisingly (and unnervingly) calm, which I attribute mostly to having great supervisors... but also to the fact I've found a cafe in town that primarily plays Dido and Travis which is the exact chill 90s/00s vibe this millennial baby needs to survive.

Farage just said “I didn’t wear a mask last time and I won’t wear them this time. This is nonsense.”
Here he is, not only wearing a mask, but also getting vaccinated…
Thanks, Tom!
Super grateful to wonderful colleagues and constructive peer reviewers for their insightful comments on earlier versions of the article.
I'm really excited to share that my first article 'Becoming Imperial Agents: British Experiences of "Stop-Off" Locations Encountered en route to the Indian Subcontinent, 1757-1835" has been published just in time for Christmas. It is open access so have a read! #history muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/articl...
I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

Someone compared Elphaba’s sex cardigan to Grizabella’s outfit in CATS and now I can’t stop laughing.
Is progressing through academia just a process of accepting that endless emails will ruin and interrupt ever greater portions of your day?

Made it to Montréal with my family for NACBS. My toddler was wide awake and raring to go at 3am as his body clock is so out of whack, poor baby - thank God for the mountain of snacks I packed as breakfast doesn’t start until 7! This is definitely going to be an adventure 😂🫣
Woman with a toddler on her lap. The toddler is holding a laptop as if to start working.
Thrilled to introduce my manager. You would be forgiven for thinking I answer to my supervisors, but in actual fact my tiny manager calls all the shots and - as my supervisors will confirm - he is one tough task master! (Ft. my current wfh situation - a spare bed full of crap and a suitcase desk 🫣)
No matter how hard people try to convince us having empathy is wrong,
it is right.
No matter how hard people try to convince us that diversity is a weakness,
it is a strength.
No matter how hard people try to convince us that love is limited,
it is unlimited.

Oh sorry I’ve just seen you wanted non-fiction recommendations 🤦🏻♀️
You could try ‘The Bear and the Nightingale’ by Katherine Arden or ‘The Binding’ by Bridget Collins. I really enjoyed both!
