Presidential Determination Pursuant to Section 303 of the Defense Production Act of 1950, as Amended, on Domestic Petroleum Production, Refining, and Logistics Capacity MEMORANDUM FOR THE SECRETARY OF ENERGY SUBJECT:       Presidential Determination Pursuant to Section 303 of the Defense Production Act of 1950, as

Several executive orders this evening invoking the Defense Production Act so Trump can directly financially support US oil/gas/petroleum/coal production, which is a great signal about how poorly this war is going economically and how little they planned for this

No specific questions but it’d be cool if you can subtly probe how cynical he is about his more slopulist positions. Like, does he have depth too? When he’s in the context of your podcast does he keep going with the superficial stuff or does he pivot to deeper takes?

Real problem is that they want cultural stuff more than material stuff. Libs would never go for, say, an anti-choice conservative that steered a factory into Seattle. Doesn’t work on rural folks either.

“There’s so many rich people that want to move here and pay tons of taxes, which is why it’s _critical_ we don’t let them do it”

Who is this?

The sliding scale of ethics and morality on display is incredibly dispiriting.

In the same way Bill Kristol had an arc in the Trump era, turning out to be one of the few cons with integrity, Platner is a similar test for a lot of the left, I think. Who retains their principles?

No, if the goal is to make parking lots more expensive, we should tax parking lots. Seattle already does! Just raise the tax.

It’s better to use the revenue for socially useful purposes rather than cost-inefficient solar panels.

@joemizrahi.bsky.social, do you have an opinion on whether this WinCo should be allowed to open here?

Well, for one it increases the heat island effect. The solar panels have a near-zero albedo. So about 20% of the light is turned into electricity and the other 80% is dissipated into the surrounding environment.

I was much more worried that he might have charisma prior to this administration.

What actual, concrete risk does anyone other than the property owner take by selling discount groceries, exactly?

Dude over at the Bad Place has been digging through the paperwork on this one.

It’s not actually literal neighbors. The only associated address with the “working families” group challenging it is a law firm in Portland.

“Neighbors.” The only address associated with the challenger is a law firm in Portland.

For context, the "neighbors" is almost certainly UFCW because WinCo is employee owned and not unionized. A similar effort took place in Renton.

Tell your UFCW friends, this ain't it.

Your detailed argument is really winning me over.

Self-identified Dem voters in polls, in this case.

AND YET. Platner seems to be propelled by running a lefty campaign.

I mean, I’ve seen him speak, I assume the highly online on here have too. Despite the different ideological valences across the two social media platforms, they’ve reached similar conclusions.

Tbf, he’s not really a Nazi. He’s a 43 year old man-child failson who didn’t find himself or his ethical compass until 42.

Perfect background to be one of the most powerful people in the nation.

I find it really fascinating that the Bluesky crowd hates Platner, the Bad Place libs hate Platner, but the Dem base seems to love him. An interesting split there.

The Trump debacle has shifted my own thinking on this. Imagine how crazy things would be right now if RFK was controlling all the money that paid for you family’s medical care? Still need the cost control and risk spreading somehow, but the “government risk” is much more real to me now.

True, but I don’t think that’s tangible in most folks day-to-day.

The implications of it being a vibecession are rough for the faction that advocates for massive societal policy change because things have never been worse.

Things are actually better, with the exception of housing (which is huge but specific), and the actual problem is they’re more better for some

Pain. (But wow, that’s an incredible pin point)

Even our lefties are libertarian and individualistic by international standards. I don’t think we’ve ever had that kind of trust in government and social cohesion.
