Big thanks to our friends at Night Worms for an exclusive first look at the cover for Smoke Season, a supernatural tale in the tradition of Arthur Machen from Shirley Jackson Award winner & author of A Hawk in the Woods, Carrie-Edmund Laben (@carrielaben.com), brilliantly designed by Matthew Revert!
The cover of SMOKE SEASON by Carrie-Edmund Laben: Orange and teal design of mountains and curling smoke with a giant femme head and shoulders rising out of the mountains. The figure's face bears the sigil of Botis. She also has curling horns.
Did somebody say COVER REVEAL?

Thank you @lossrockhart.bsky.social, @sadiehartmann.bsky.social, and Matthew Revert for the fantastic cover art.
Now this? This is the shit I'm waiting for.
Pamela is an amazing writer and friend. Cannot wait for this one
Oh man, this sounds right up my alley.
I'm in.
I met Durgin a couple of times. This sounds very Lynchian!
Word Horde is proud to announce Desert Radio, the debut novel from author Pamela M. Durgin. Get ready for high strangeness, mysterious radio transmissions, government conspiracies, weird rituals, and liminal spaces in the 1990s California desert. Things are about to get very weird this Fall.
It takes a village to make a book, so we’d also like to take this opportunity to give shout-outs to cover artist Matthew Jaffe, cover designer Scott R. Jones, and copyeditor Shannon Page.
Thanks to all the HWA members and Stoker jurors who recommended it and congratulations to all the other Stoker nominees! It’s an outstanding ballot this year.

Super excited to see that @johnlangan.bsky.social’s Word Horde collection Lost in the Dark and Other Excursions has been nominated for the Bram Stoker Award® for Superior Achievement in a Fiction Collection. Congratulations, John! 🥳
Picture of book, Notes From Underground, by Orrin Grey being held up.
Maybe you aren't necessarily a fan of hollow earth stories (though these aren't what you'd expect), or weird dreamlike fiction. But the final story, Pandora, in @orringrey.com 's new collection from @wordhorde.bsky.social is worth the price of admission alone. Deeply sad, deeply moving...
The cover of my nonfiction collection Glowing in the Dark: Writings on the Horror Film, art and design by Yves Tourigny.
My most recent nonfiction book is Glowing in the Dark, also from @wordhorde.bsky.social, which nabbed the aforementioned Rondo Award nomination.

My short stories have been published in dozens of anthologies, including several apperances in @datlow.bsky.social's Best Horror of the Year. My latest collection is Notes from Underground from @wordhorde.bsky.social.

"Orrin Grey loves monsters and movies more than anyone. By the time you’re done with this book, so will you."
Another glowing (no pun intended) review, this time of GLOWING IN THE DARK, from a longtime reader and booster.
"This is Grey’s most unified book, a capstone to his museum-of-monsters vibe that threads his obsessions into a single, durable rope."
A vivid, insightful review of NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND that says many very nice things and seems to get exactly what I was going for.
"Justin felt untethered, one step outside of time, from the moment the car door slammed behind him to the moment he
stood on his aunt’s front step." - first line of Smoke Season, coming next spring from @wordhorde.bsky.social

Fantastic! 🤘
Every week, from now until the release of NOTES FROM UNDERGROUND from @wordhorde.bsky.social, I will be posting a new installment of Hollow Earth Expeditions, where I'll be exploring some of the many influences that shaped the collection, and my own odd conception of the Hollow Earth.
I read an advance of this and found it a great mix of fun and weird and horrible. I know that sounds counterintuitive but it's not. Ordinary folks come in close contact with the inexplicable and are changed by it, unmade and remade.
New book by me, coming out VERY soon and with some amazing cover art by Matthew Revert - available to pre-order right now!
