and like… some of the circa-2000 ones i love are also smugly smirking, but its the uniformity of the modern ones that gets my goat. i dislike the over-perfected tapered lines, the amount of detail, and that they all feel the same, no matter the theme of the set

Star Trek screenshot i referenced to paint the picture at the top of the thread. it's from "The Apple"

the still frame from Star Trek i used to paint the study in the original post. it's from the episode "The Apple", right after Spock's taken those flower darts for Kirk and now he's being resuscitated by Bones

i like that spock looks so small, like a tiny cpr manikin. bc i took a gesture sketch and decided to paint a study on top keeping in most of its deformities
