@ictevangelist.bsky.social Hi Mark. Just wondered if you knew anything about meta glasses. I have been recording snippets of teachers with some. Do you know if they offer discounts for teachers in UK as well as US?

‘Our pupils deserve the best’
Definitely. Also helps with quality of work and high standards.
23 years in the art room has shown me you provide the absolute best quality materials, the students value them and appreciate working with the best stuff. Better work as a result.

Three cardboard figure sculptures which we are transforming into 'mountaineers'. The children have built these basic sculptures around a simple box shape for the torso, then gradually added more and more detail just by cutting shaped from cardboard.

Here is one of the sculptures a little further on, the children have built up the clothing and added a backpack, helmet, tools, and other accessories.

I've had an amazing day at Westfield College in Weymouth. The children are building sculptures of 'mountaineers' and this is the progress just today. The ideas, and the level of detail in the work is incredible, have a close look. These children all have additional needs. 👍

Hope it all goes really well today. Enjoy this weekend.
We had them a fortnight ago - took me a week to get over it!

Happy #Internationalwomensday

When I told SLT I was pregnant (in 2007) I was asked:

‘What kind of a working mother will you be? Will you be like …. Or be like…..’

Both were women teachers at school.

Has a man ever been asked this question when announcing he is due to be a father?

I am just sat, staring blankly - too tired to do anything.

Ofsted certainly take their toll!!

The day before this photo was taken, a teacher took me to one side and told me I’d better dress sensibly for the 6th form photo.
Couldn’t let him down!
I carefully pick my battles with students. He didn’t.

My lovely Sam at training tonight. Loving his new bike and longer handlebar stem.
Shame the velodrome is over an hour away from us.

This was also us. Nearly every day. Son is now nearly 17 and has left school. He is now doing farming. Outside. Open. He is doing much better. Hang in there.
We still have the odd meltdown but not as violent or often.
Son was also a model student and school had no idea.

I have never been interested in target grades for my students. They have never made sense to us in art. Linked to Eng and Maths for KS3. Just odd.
Maybe why we have such high expectations of every student. Rubbed off through the years and made us such a successful dept in terms of progress.

I always say to my Yr 10 ‘why would you not be aiming for a 9?’ When they ask about their target grade.
Target grades are pointless. For my son they were a big excuse to not work to his full potential, for my daughter, a huge burden of anxiety and stress. Pointless.

I have made a PowerPoint of visuals of the art referred to in the AQA fine art gcse exam.
Happy to share if anyone would like it?
