Saw Belly live years ago, with Radiohead as the opener. Fantastic show.

Tanya Donnelly was also great in her time with Breeders and before that Throwing Muses.

I am sorry you are having to go through all of these traumas, Jake. I hope your sisters both recover soon. I don’t have any answer, either, but thank you for sharing this.

digital scan of a page from a design book, with multicolor illustrations of a crab (top) and fish (bottom) each framed in an octogonal shape

"Hisui Sosaku Zuanshu is a collection of creative designs by graphic designer SUGIURA Hisui (1876-1965), who was a pioneer of modern design in Japan."

"This is a collection of designs created by graphic designer Hisui Sugiura. It was published in 1926 (Taisho 15) after his studies in Europe. Hisui's design collections, including 'Hisui Flower and Bird Designs' which is listed in the NDL Image Bank, went out of print after the Great Kanto Earthquake. This collection was created to supplement those collections, with Sugiura gradually drawing and accumulating designs. It features new motifs that reflect the results of his studies in Europe, such as bold diagonal lines and compositions that place figures within straight lines."

I think the most important issue of authorship is communicating to the reader who did the work, not who needs the credit. In the one case where I included a posthumous coauthor, I did note in the acknowledgements that he had passed before he could see the completed work.

Project Hail Mary is a beautiful brilliant film. But molecular biologists be warned there's a deeply disturbing scene midway through when Ryan Gosling's scientist places two eppendorfs directly next to each other in an otherwise empty unbalanced microcentrifuge & sets it spinning with wild abandon.

Sometimes other things drive it (a NTT person getting a TT position, family reasons, etc). But I hear you. I’m definitely glad my move, which had that similar grant situation, was in 2024.

Could you maintain an appointment (visiting, courtesy, etc) at your “old” institution so that the grant could be awarded there after your move if need be and then transferred?

I really appreciate this TikToker with Tourette syndrome, Shay, for taking the time to educate so many of us (including me) about her disability and coprolalia in light of what happened at the BAFTAs with John Davidson when Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were on stage.

I learned a lot.

Wow, that’s ugly. Was it one of those situations where the health system policies completely subsumed any consideration of research?

I am so happy I was able to escape Florida, and feel for my former university colleagues that have to put up with this degradation of education and research.
