Although I agree with all you included in your piece, I must admit seeing it so carefully explained is simply damn depressing despite the smidge of optimism at the end. If somehow the Suprene Court could be expanded and Citizens United overturned, Democracy in America may have a chance to survive.

Presidents shouldn't be able to fire or interfere with their own investigations like Trump did with Mueller. They also shouldn't be eligible for office after committing treason, or be able to wage illegal wars or use the military to terrorize immigrants and citizens. None of this should be happening
This is the right instinct. Collective, lawful resistance beats doomscrolling and lone rage. Authoritarians win on isolation. They lose when people organize, show up, and refuse to normalize abuse of power. Defiance is civic duty.
You said Biden could have released them. That is false. Any critical info release would have given Maxwell's defense a viable mistrial argument based on prejudicial pretrial publicity, and that argument could have undone her conviction.
