Unboxing challenge:
I'm looking for more GMless games that you can play together without any reading in advance. Games you can just pick up and follow the instructions cold
Show me what you got!
Just imagine how much the neighbors would envy a hobbit with that many rings!
I've been making desserts with pistachio pudding recently, and I can say with confidence that it has fixed me π
Children are great because they can help you see things in a whole new way. Like how my 7yo just told me he thought Lord of the Rings is probably about Bilbo trying to get a bunch of rings.
Happy Birthday Robot, a storytelling game. Dice, coins, and a handwritten story.
After it had been sitting in our 'to play' pile for 13 years, we finally played Happy Birthday Robot! It was just waiting for us to have a kid, and for that kid to be ready to have the restraint to only make one butt joke π
He was miffed at me for being slow at describing how capitalism etc. eats society to someone with a 2nd grade understanding of the world π I need to refine my Downfall pitch for the kids
My 7yo picked up a Downfall book and had a whole stream of consciousness about the title and the cover image. "Downfall. Woah, why is it in the sky? That seems like a bad idea. Pieces of it are falling off. Oh falling dowwwn. Down Fallllll. That is Not Safe. Why is it falling? Have you read it?" π
There's something very, well, joyful about moving the creative process away from the big black screen. <3
I've been enjoying writing by hand lately - a short story, a blog post, planning documents. And so I was really excited to see this Kickstarter cultivating analog play from two local writers I know and super respect. Jenn and Sarah have the deep thoughts about writing and play! Very hype!
Oh I know these lovely people! How exciting!
(Ahhh! The radio dramas! Rrrrrruby!)
This made possible by the gift of playing with someone new to story games who has not yet learned to expect the antagonisms. The true reason to expand the hobby lol
In our Downfall game last night we had the joy of getting to call for a consequence in the very first scene. Sure, the Hero can get that promotion she's been chasing, but oh no looks like Ms. Giant Wrench is getting leapfrogged out of engineering directly into a management job.
This was a fun and thought-provoking read! Thank you for sharing!
I hope I'll see lots of folks at Go Play NW this year! It's my favorite con - small and covid-conscious, with a wide variety of games run by kind and interesting people <3 Buying your ticket now helps ensure the event can happen, so please register if you plan to come! goplaynw.org/membership-d...
Rabbit Downfall - A warren becomes too tightly controlled by its Chief Rabbit and spirals into a bloody revolution.
Rabbit Follow - The heist quest or the prison break quest. I hope we don't lose some good bunnies along the way.
Rabbit Kingdom - Perspective bunny goes hard. Knows bad things will happen, sometimes speaks with the voice of god
I just finished reading Watership Down last night. Holy smokes! What a great book! And now all I want to do is play rabbits in every game βοΈππͺ
Come hang out with me in Seattle. GoPlay NW continues to offer a top-shelf curated selection of players and facilitators.
Big Bad Con vibes, mixed with Seattle cool.
Bring paperweights, Beacon Hill is windy as fuck.

I like DIY dipshits π. We call them "the previous administration." So many questionable decisions
You are on the list! π
Thanks Nick! Will do! π
I did a little write-up of a playtest we had a few weeks ago of @thehintguy.bsky.social's current project - Pottery Shards! This one is getting close to being done! Now I just need to figure out what the best archaeology themed emojis are...
Oooo interesting. I'm a big fan of a 4 player game, and tend to use that as my baseline. Do you have a preference on number of players per scene? I love a 2 person scene and riot if there are more than 3. π«
doooods, hear me out:
Polaris, but the Mistake is AIβ¦
(cuz yeah, people all over society pull their scooby doo masks off and push that slop)
Marc and I are trying to get more into the habit of doing play write-ups like in the olden days of the Story Games Seattle Meetup, if for no other reason than it's fun to look back on them years later. Here's one @thehintguy.bsky.social did for a playtest of my current project - Entanglement!
I dunno, using that list of baseball player names always seems to work
How do you get Heathcliff all fucked up if you don't have the terrible relationship between him and Hindley? That also means there's no Hareton???
