Former Toronto police officer alleges antisemitism & anti-black racism in high ranks.

Idsinga goes Serpico. Will it matter?

Holy shit. "critical of cowardly westerners who have abandoned their sense of self-preservation for fear of being called racist. It mocks the leftist who foolishly welcomes hordes of disordered behaviour into his homeland; the feminist who naïvely assumes that her new compatriots won’t rape her;"

This is what happens when people can speed with impunity. Gerrard St East near Main

Car was traveling around 100kph in a 40 zone. Thanks Doug Ford for removing speeding cameras. Thanks Toronto Police for zero enforcement on this street.

Weird how Doug Ford just Keeps Showing Up in cases of random Ontario corruption and self-dealing elites, like in this story about a construction union head who got the union to buy him a 4-million dollar home.

Well...at least they used the verb "claims." That's at least sort of progress. Also, if you didn't know, AI Detection tools are snake oil. They have an abysmal track record for false positives.

What went wrong in Israel? A genocide scholar examines ‘what Zionism became’ In his new book, Omer Bartov tracks how a liberatory strand of Zionism transformed into an extremist ideology that he sees as responsible for genocide in Gaza

Israeli genocide scholar Omer Bartov will have his book on Zionism and genocide translated into 9-10 languages, but not Hebrew. He even offered to translate it himself, but not a single Israeli publisher would go near it. Not even the ‘leftwing’ ones.

lovely tribute by bluesky to the 28.8k dialup modem. a single image could take minutes

I think partly it’s just that Bluesky is easier to attack than bigger sites. And while Bluesky might be anti-Trump, the overall political slant here isn’t stuff the Iranian regime is supportive of (queers, feminism, not shooting protesters, human rights are good, etc)

flipping through a proof of yet another book from a somewhat well known liberal voice diagnosing “where the left went wrong” and i’m struck, again, by the fact that a large part (if not most) of the liberal commentariat simply does not believe that the political right has agency.

The Olympics’ trans policy polices womanhood | Moira Donegan Sports bans have humiliated trans women and girls across America. Now, the Olympics joins in

"The requirement that women have their sex invasively monitored legitimizes the fantasy that men are trying to pass as women to win women's sports & validates interrogation against women whose bodies/lives aren't gender-conforming." @moiradonegan.bsky.social www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Later in the 1970s, Roger Freeman — a key educational adviser to Nixon then working for the reelection of California governor Ronald Reagan — spelled out quite precisely what the conservative counter attack was aimed at preventing: "We are in danger of producing an educated proletariat. That's dynamite! We have to be selective on the we allow to go through higher education. If not we will have a large number of highly trained and unemployed people." The two most menacing institutional sources of the same described by Freeman were obviously those two great public university systems charging no tuition: the University of California and the City University of New York. Governor Reagan was able to wipe out free tuition at the University of California.

The Americans sure don’t see the world or themselves the way we do. They look at these figures and say “He’s underwater! Alarm bells ring for his presidency!” Everyone else says ruefully, “One in three Americans still supports this bullying, dangerous, demented, self-destructive regime.”

Tim Heidecker snitched on my husband to the Feds.
While not entirely out of character for an unfunny socialist like Tim, he tried to backtrack and delete his original tweet where he ID'd Jay to the FBI, only after the media ran with it and fans were being critical. It doesn't seem like he had any remorse though, as he went on to write an article on his Substack, justifying his rat behavior because Jay was once "mean" to him at a bar like 25 years ago when Tim was still a tag-a-long newbie in LA.
Nevermind that they worked together multiple times over the years after that, little Timmy doesn't forget!

Okay, the funniest response to the news of @theonion.com getting InfoWars is seeing Jay Johnston's wife claiming that Tim Heidecker snitched on her husband to the FBI, as though thousands of people hadn't already been like "Is that Jay Johnston at January 6th?" online before Tim said anything.

thinking abt this bc there is currently a controversy on tiktok where people are misreading and spreading a statistic from this article, saying that 62 million men were either in or interested in a telegram chat about drugging and raping their female partners when really it was like 1000 people max

The first panel shows a crow with the title "How to live a good life". The second panel shows a crow cawing at itself in the mirror with the subheading "Make friends". The next panel says "Explore" and shows a crow looking into a commercial waste bin. The next says "Try new things" with a crow eating something vile. The next one says "Be curious" and shows the crow grabbing a hissing cat's tail". The final frame says "Get a hobby" and shows the crow looking closely at a book of matches.

The power is down in my neighbourhood, and apparently only about 10% of drivers know that means you treat every intersection with no lights as a four way stop. Complete chaos out there.

I worked for the Canadian Armed Forces in the early days of the Afghanistan operation, and man…I’ve never had so many vaccines. It took repeated visits, over several days, to get them all done. It sucked, but I understood. A disease-ridden force isn’t great in a fight.

I think mostly because he’s dead. We don’t have to think about him getting royalties and profiting from his art anymore. Also, R Kelly didn’t really get cancelled until more recently, which is probably internet related. If a new Jackson allegation popped up now, things might shift there too.

You're looking at velvet malachite, Cu2CO3(OH)2.

A few warnings:
Please resist the urge to touch it to feel how soft it is.
Absolutely /do not/ lick it.
Keep far away from any Supermen.
If a wingéd creature emerges, do not agree to any pacts.

Let's talk about the science here.
