Evangelical conservatives get upset when the real world doesn’t resemble their hermetically-sealed cultural bubble. Most of them don’t like having their worldview challenged.

I read @erikaswyler.bsky.social’s book “We Lived on the Horizon” and really enjoyed it. It has cool worldbuilding, interesting characters (including a sapient AI), and thought-provoking discussion about wealth inequality. #booksky #scifi

The biggest argument in favor of Linux is the Windows Terms of Service. Microsoft collects an eye-watering amount of data on us, and the scope of that collection expands constantly.
Admittedly, there is a learning curve. Like learning to change oil, there will be frustration and muttered cursing.

Do you have a moment to speak about our lord and savior, Linux?

I can listen to a podcast while doing housework or commuting, and if I zone out for a minute, I probably won’t miss anything important. Can’t say the same about an audiobook.

The primary customer base for AI stuff consists of governments, large corporations, and law enforcement. Normal people are the product. Our wants and needs unfortunately aren’t part of the equation.

MacBooks are overpriced. I say this as someone who recently bought one.
The screen, battery life, and trackpad are good, and I prefer Mac OS over Windows. But the keyboard is extremely disappointing.

Ghost jobs: What the rise in fake job listings says about the current job market Though the labor market seems healthy, many workers still struggle to find jobs, revealing a gap between data and real-life experiences.

Legitimate employers often post fake job postings: when they’ve already decided to fill the position internally, or to make their businesses seem more successful to shareholders, or to gaslight overworked employees into thinking staffing shortages are temporary.

Sprints with my writing group. At the end of 30 minutes, everyone reports their word count in chat. I am INCREDIBLY motivated by the anxiety of “oh no, what if my word count is the lowest?”
