Also, the point here isn't about forgetting the lessons of the 2008 crisis and fallout, it's about recognising that, over time, those initial - and much needed - rules have become too swingeing. Yes, rules are most definitely still needed, but are they needed at the same level of severity? Maybe not
But equally let's bear in mind that this isn't a binary thing - it's not all or nothing. You can protect consumers and promote growth - it's about risk mitigation and accepting residual risk through your own risk appetite. The trick is determining whose risk appetite you defer to.
