I'd hate for them to be DUP-style kingmakers with no actual responsibility.

So what you're saying is most of the worlds billionaires just don't like being told 'no'. I think we already knew that...

Here they're going to be building something themselves that they will need to maintain or it stops working, which means *they* lose money, because all generated electricity is just fed into the network. Nobody is going without if it doesn't work.

As I've said to others - it's obvious that what MacQuarie did with water was shitty, because they bought existing infrastructure and didn't invest or maintain it.

Any proposed local/community model will fail immediately and if the government gets involved, either they put pennies in for every pound needed or it's done out of general taxation.

If private or foreign investment (who, yes, will siphon off *profits*, because that's what most businesses would do) aren't paying for it, who is..?

Macquarie & Co. were dickbags for their water company acquisitions but the problem there was they bought infrastructure and didn't maintain it - here they're creating their own solar projects and selling the energy they generate - if it breaks and stops generating, they lose money.

But the problem is this is 'perfect is the enemy of the good' - someone needs to front the money and no 'community' fund is going to supply the cash to build something at the scale needed to be worth while.

So are you advocating *more* tax rises on the everyman to help pay for the government to fund it?

In the case of water, they bought into an existing monopoly and extracted the profit at the expense of investment and maintaining it.

In this case, won't they be the ones building it and just taking a cut on the energy they sell?

MAM are scum, but someone has to front the money for this at scale.

But where is the money coming from to make this a public thing?

The obsessive focus on 'won't someone think of the children' since the 60s has let a lot of nonsense slip through.

Netflix bought the Roald Dahl Company 6 years ago.

Wonka is probably the biggest 'brand' that came with that, but Glass Elevator is effectively unfilmable, so they have to spin it off in other ways.

Also consider that a new GP surgery in an area means the catchment gets divided up, again reducing the funding for the people running the practices.

Obviously most GP practices are run as private entities who employ their GPs, but are also owned by at least *some* of them (often older/incumbent GPs).

More GPs in a practice means the funding cake is shared amongst more people.

But that's not necessarily true. There are thousands of newly qualified GPs unable to find a place to practice...

To be fair, any local facebook group would reveal that 'not enough GPs/Dentists/School Spaces' is always the *initial* reason rolled out, so forcing people to openly admit to the prejudices by cutting the easy moan off is an idea.
