y'know i'm thinking about this now and honestly it occurs to me that i SHOULD probably be a lot more scared of putting unsigned .apks on my phone or whatever, cuz i have to download that sorta thing for random software workarounds occasionally and it'd be SO easy for me to get got by one of those

that's what I'm saying yeah! I'm pretty sure that's been the default setting since the debut of either Windows 7 or 10, so there are DEFINITELY at least some current teenagers who have never used a computer that showed those file extensions in their lives lol

yeah absolutely. it's just funny to think that all of that STARTED as the reason why it was associated with being "sketchy" or "dangerous" and that's why it was used in stuff like Sonic.exe in the first place, but when you're far enough downstream of all of that, it's JUST the Evil Murder Suffix now

imagining a hypothetical 15yo FNF fan or whatever searching online for tech support, and being told to check the folder with the .exe file for a steam game they're having issues with, and they suddenly get all scared like "wait the problem is that there's a DEMON in my laptop?? am i being pranked??"

like floppy disks are just "the save icon" to a lot of people nowadays, but in that case it worked out like that because their use as a symbol for "save your files" has long outlived their practicality as a form of physical data storage. but with .exe files, it's like... they're still everywhere lol

do you ever think about how there's almost certainly a population of kids/young people at this point who just think putting ".exe" on the end of something means it's evil/haunted and have never consciously considered that it's also just an extremely common file extension

I've been getting a lot of questions re: chronic pain + art lately and I'm begging people to consider regular tablets over screen ones, and don't hunch over them. They take some getting used to but they allow for much better posture and reduced strain!

yeah I was making my way over to the save point but somehow didn't realize until just before I bumped into one that there were enemies on that screen as well as NPCs, and obviously I still had like 1HP left from the boss. so yeah, just very unlucky, but I think it was better to stop there regardless

no idea what that entails and I don't intend to find out, the furthest I got was the boss at the end of the sand zone and then I died in the first room of the trash dump. that fight and its surrounding plot stuff were just the last straw for me, I see where this is going and I don't want more of it

like honestly "I'm not really a classic megaman kinda person at all and I also didn't enjoy shovel knight that much" should've really been enough reason for me to leave it alone and respect cave story's legacy from a distance, but I would've never expected it to be so fuckin BLEAK too. jesus christ

how do I express "I think I'd genuinely be happier if I'd never actually touched this video game and it was just 'on my list' forever" without it sounding like I think it's bad? cuz I don't! but it is SO deeply opposite to what I want from a game in both vibes and gameplay and I should've known that

and yeah, when I realized I was back at the previous savepoint again AND I'd have to watch the cutscene and beat the boss again AND I now knew that beating it would just give me ANOTHER scene to make me feel So Much Fucking Worse... sorry to all my friends who adore this game but I am NOT doing this

I haven't legitimately ragequit anything since I was a teen, but I just beat a boss that took me 10+ tries and it forced me to rewatch a frankly very upsetting cutscene every time, and THEN I accidentally died in the next room and I never got a chance to save so I would've had to do that boss AGAIN

alright well I've decided I don't actually need to beat cave story after all, I have made my peace with it simply being a thing I will not experience. fuuuuck that
