The pilot program will last a year, then possibly expand to the remainder of Broadway and First Avenue. In November, NDOT will close Fifth and Broadway for about three weeks. On the weekends, they will reportedly open the area, so it doesn't impact businesses. The project is expected to be fully complete by 2026.
"We want to make sure it works, we want to make sure there are no problems," Alarcon said.
