Holy balls, wind is BACK.
This is such good news as solar and batteries rightly get lots of attention, but wind still provides more clean energy in some very sunny countries.
Spain is one example - sunny AF, but more power comes from wind, currently.

No joke, I *bet* an Atproto labeller that added something like "Eurosky Founding Funder" on profiles, for folks who funded the first 100k in this crowdfunder would raise a bunch of cash.
The Palintir mini manifesto at least makes it clear that if you buy their software you are buying it to a transnational political, military and economic project. The problem is public procurement officers are not exactly best placed to make that sort of decision. Software is politics!
In the same manifesto, Palantir's owners argued that we need a national military draft, that soft power is over, and that we were too hard on Germany and Japan after World War II. I don't think that company should be allowed to exist anymore.
If/when this review makes it into the public domain, I am gonna *dance*. I've previously found the work from Careful Trouble / Careful Industries so helpful and thoughtful.
Look up the term "community tech" for some good examples of their work.
And guess what happens once the Chinese have made enough electric freight trucks for themselves, paying off the cost of the factories? They will export them to the rest of the world at the cost of variable inputs
(materials, energy, labour), i.e., super cheap.
On Mastodon, I would quietly edit the embarrassing repetition in this post and all would be well.
For bsky this is supposed to be a feature that you have with @skeetsapp.com, but the option doesn’t seem to be there. this is within the 10 minute window.
@skeetsapp.com, any idea what’s going on?
I don’t think I’ve seen Chris quite so strident in a thread like this before and it’s worth reading, as his podcast over the last 10 years has been creating some of the most insightful analysis of the energy transition globally, but in particular the US. It’s worth your time to read.
I hadn't come across the VDA framework (Verification, Deliberation, Accountability) before this thread, but here is a good demonstration of applying it to see how the worldview summarised from the book from Palantir's CEO is undemocratic. It always amazes me how prevalent they are in public sector 🤮
Trying out @skeetsapp.com, and this feature just convinced me to take out an annual sub for the product.
The explainer was what I was looking for to make the jump - how they make posts editable to catch post-post typos 👍
V cool hack!

Personally, I think this is good idea from a sustainability & efficiency point of view, and in a recent guide I worked with some other folk to explain how it related to datacentre demand flexibility (link below)

But automatically opting people in? 😬 Uh-uh.
However, you can do it for other reasons too - like saving money - by using existing spare capacity in other parts of the world, to avoid needing to build out so extra capacity in the EU too. You can see if you're opted-in below:
learn.microsoft.com/en-us/micros...
This is the flip side of grid aware / carbon aware computing, a practice popularised by the Green Software Foundation, where demand for computation can in theory be met by moving the request either thru time or thru space for sustainability reasons:
learn.greensoftware.foundation/carbon-aware...
TIL I learned about Flex Routing - a practice by Microsoft, that routes AI inference requests coming from EU customers to go outside the EU when they're low on spare capacity, so they can be served in datacentres in the US, Australia and Canada (among others).

A HUGE, narrative-breaking moment for the UK car market
New EVs are now cheaper than petrol cars on average, says Autotrader
Last yr CCC said price parity was due by 2028 – and it's already here
And EVs are already MUCH cheaper to run than petrol
The other benefit now here is that switching to have a PDS hosted on other infra like @eurosky.social stack is possibly without needing to change handles.
Useful, particularly if the crypto VC investors in Bluesky do what might expect them to Bluesky over time.
Oh neat, switching over from mrchrisadams.bsky.social to using mrchrisadams.net was much simpler than I feared.
I really appreciate that they protect your old handle from people squatting it by default now.
Oh neat! I’m hosting a PDS on blue sky infra right now, but I’d like to migrate to Eurosky. Is there where a EU-Haul migrated PDS ends up?
I learn SO much from following Simon, and this result of a local model rivalling (and more subjectively, even beating) the largest frontier model from Anthropic is one of the easiest to understand examples of how quickly open weights LLM models follow behind them now.
A screenshot of someones post saying "Noooo he moved during the panoramic photo" and the picture was of an abomination that was once a dog.
lol
The stupidest tool from the box.
Keeps demand and prices artificially high, costs billions, and largely ends up with households that don't need support. 🤦♀️🤦♂️🤦
Magyar said that all of the heads of Orban's media must resign.
When we get rid of Trump in the US we will still have to deal with the oligarch-owned media.
So, we will need a plan to address that or this will all happen again.
Bilbo why not meme saying After all…why not? Why shouldn’t I be Jesus?
I keep thinking about how happy Hungarians must be tonight
Imagine if we'd had Donald Trump for 16 straight years....
It's not a counterpunch, guys. The pope didn't throw a punch. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/12/u...
"Imagine if Biden insulted the Pope and compared himself to Christ."
The exercise becomes absurd after a while, does it not?
Celebratory dance in Hungary
And he actually fucking conceded too. After six years of “down is up” refutation of election results in the states, I wasn’t sure you’d actually see a peaceful transition. Thank chuff.
Interesting. An international conference specifically about transitioning away from fossil fuels. This is a way for countries that get it to cooperate outside the sclerotic UNFCCC framework. Worth watching.
Tisza party
Magyar victory speech here. These people are so euphoric now. Damn I hope he can manage it!
