FTSE bosses receive 18% pay bump this year in global fight for talent Companies are also watering down ESG elements of pay plans as boards reassess whether such awards ‘make sense’

FTSE 100 CEO average pay up 18% to £5.89m, less weight attached to environmental, social, governance targets.

Did your pay rise by 18%?

Workers produce wealth but get crumbs.

Need worker elected directors, worker vote on exec pay to secure equitable distribution.

“They’ve got all kinds of jobs done, they’re just there helping all the time”. Greens will have his vote…

Her office said the Office for Students (OfS), which regulates universities, had received reports of speakers and lecturers being harassed and blocked for holding gender-critical or religious views, of foreign interference suppressing academic freedoms, and of ideological belief requirements featuring in job advertisements.

The OfS will be able to use the new complaints scheme from September. From April, it will be able to fine universities the greater of £500,000 or 2 per cent of their income, which would amount to millions of pounds for large institutions, for breaches under the Freedom of Speech Act. Ultimately, universities could be deregistered for egregious cases.

Bridget Phillipson will introduce new laws to make it possible for Universities to be fined millions of pounds if they don't silence students who protest bigots invited onto their campuses. It's like the Tories never left office.

Who’d have thought a fossil-fuel shill like Trump would be the one to spark a green revolution? | George Monbiot The US attack on Iran has made the need for renewable energy inarguable, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

“Greens who were long dismissed as “idealistic” & “unrealistic” now look like hard-headed pragmatists & true patriots. They’re years ahead of their rivals in demanding a transition that makes sense on every level: environmental, economic & political” - great article from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social 👇

Corporate Welfare

In the last 3 yrs UK Govt gave £100bn subsidy to banks in the form of interest on central reserves.

Practice started in 2009 after govt created QE. It was supposed to compensate for ultra low interest rates.

EU mostly stopped such payments in 2023

What would you do with £100bn?

Civil servant 1:
"Do the Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister want to be told that Peter Mandelson has failed security vetting?"

Civil servant 2:
"No. They do not want to be told."

It’s illustrative to recognise when the Guardian uses the word investment (straightforward handing over cash to the private sector) and when it uses spending (welfare, public sector wages)
