Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

Exactly. Legislation is completely and utterly unnecessary.

It is. But being accused of having a dismissive attitude towards getting (and the timeline seems to back that up tbf) is pretty damaging. Or at least it would have been, a while back. Honestly not sure now!

It’s all a massive distraction that nobody needs, at the very best.

Also they sent Mandelson a letter confirming his appointment and security clearance on 20th Jan. UKSV didn’t report back until 28th?

STILL more questions than answers and the whole thing is a bit whiffy.

Imagine getting yourself into this mess over an ambassadorial appointment?

Trump & co.

So really…that this has taken them by surprise is a bit of a worry.

Problem he’s got now is that Robbins has said that vetting issues didn’t related to Epstein. So he’s sacked Mandelson for something not linked to the vetting issue, and the story will rumble on and on and on.

Funny thing is, appointed him BECAUSE he’s dodgy as fuck and moves in the same circles as

as a bit of an inconvenience tbh. Which makes kicking up a huge stink about not being told the outcome of it a little hard to take seriously?

It is, but he started his role 3 days before the vetting recommendation was made? Also it’s a unique position I think. In most jobs your appointment isn’t announced by Downing Street and doesn’t make front page news. Given his history as well? Think it points towards the vetting process being seen…

And making Robbins the scapegoat is weak and cowardly.

But PMs have done far worse and survived, so 🤷‍♂️

Given that the decision to approve/deny is very much one for the appointing department (they are given a recommendation but the decision is theirs) then you’re really sending out a very strong message by announcing in public.

The whole thing is a shitshow tbh.

Personally think that announcing appointments prior to conclusion of a vetting procedure is a pretty prejudicial act. Especially as vetting outcomes are supposed to remain very much known only to the vetting agency, a tiny number of people in the appointing department, and the person being vetted.

Hey if you’ve got time to cheerlead for your guy, more power to you. Just don’t expect to be taken seriously.

Forgive me if I don’t quite take seriously the impartiality of someone who is searching up posts made about Starmer by people he doesn’t know 🙄

Can’t say process followed when you’ve literally tried to avoid the process and been forced into it.

Pressure from Cabinet office to rush appointment through, Cabinet office saying vetting unnecessary.

This is a fair point!

Fuck me, Robbins is throwing Starmer under the biggest of big buses.

And tbh, I thought Starmer apologising to Epstein victims was ludicrous. What for? Giving a job to somebody who knew him? wtf?

As ever, the infraction is bearable, it’s the cover up that gets you.

100% agree. 24 hour news cycle has not been good for absolutely anybody.

Big game for Wrexham today. Only a win will do.

No matter what, it’s been a hugely successful season. To finish in the top 8 in the Championship is so far beyond expectations (avoid relegation by a point!) at the start of the season.

And still. You just never know!

Reform to tell Welsh museums how to present history, manifesto says Election pledges say Reform would ask museums to present history chronologically.

What the actual fuck is this bullshit?

Well I mean if you’re telling people in advance that you’re gonna be angry it’s just performative isn’t it?

Chelsea won’t get more than 9 from their last 5. One win does it in all likelihood.

Xg has them 3rd 🤷‍♂️

I think there’s an element of Liverpool fans forgetting that the performances in the good seasons under Klopp were not normal. That was one of the best team in football history.

Also…they responded well to adversity today.

I’d be surprised if Chelsea get more than 9 points in their remaining games. It’s pretty much done.

Curtis Jones was great btw. As was Gakpo.

Typical scrappy derby game, enjoyed it.
